Im in chicago and just in the past 2 weeks have gotten 2 tint tickets @ $250 each!!!!!
I have 35% all around obv excluding the windshield which is perfectly legal in the state of Illinois, but Chicago made its own tint law which says no tint on the front windows. I need to figure out a way to get the tint legal license plates because this is obv going to cost me an arm and a leg very quickly.

I just got this ticket too but here's my predicament: My plates are out of state. My tint is legal by FL standards which is where my car is registered. I'm here for a couple more weeks and then I leave. Is there a way I don't have to take my tint off? FL is hot as hell

I agree. Tint laws are beyond stupid. Look at most SUVs, they got like 30 feet of tint you need to walk by to get to the driver. How hard is it for someone in the rear seat to blast a cop when he's walking by? Yet its legal to have your back windows tinted.. In NJ you can have the rear windows limo tinted if you want just not the front.

Hell no.. You don't have to do a damn thing. If the tint is legal in the state that your car is registered in then the cop can't give you a ticket.

35% is cool... usually cops wont hassle you for it unless theyve pulled you over for something else... they'll just use it as additional ammo on you.

What is going to happen is that a judge sooner or later will tell the city of Chicago to stop the frivolous writing of tint infractions and to obey IL state law.

Here is a good article on police raising the tint fines to increase revenues.
Good Luck in the meantime.

If your car is registered in a State that allows tint (like FL ) you're fine. If a CHP officer or cop in our state (CA) still tries to write you up, refuse to sign the ticket and ask for his supervisor to show up. Usually the higher up the chain you go, the more educated they are regarding laws with cars registered out of state.

What you need to do is educate yourself on the CA vehicle code. This varies from State to State so you need to be familiar with the vehicle codes in other states that you often travel to.

I've already received the ticket so I'm out of luck. I guess I'll go to the station and ask questions there.

CA is funny like that - after doing a little reading it seems that it may be legal for them to cite you even though your car is registered in a state that allows tints.

I have a feeling this thread is going to grow quickly over the next several months....

I think it has less to do with them being dicks (or not) and more to do with their bosses pressuring them to generate revenue.

My Ticket was given to me by a CHP officer Myrie - I don't know this individual
personally so I can't speak on his character. In the end it's not him that has to change, it's the law that does

Also, I would like to add that CA has the strictest emissions (exhaust) smog testing in the nation, as well as the strictest tint laws. really ridiculous. Texas can have 20% on the front windows, why can't we?

in CA I just drive with my moonroof open, so more visible light can come into the cabin. That way my 20% looks lighter. But I usually roll down my windows anyways as a precaution. Usually I think a cop would take this as a sign of respect and think twice about stopping you over.

very very true - If it's the end of the month and they got to write that ticket, they will.

I hate stupid comments like this, quotas don't exist guys! All tickets are written because the Officer simply wants to write it, period!
