I have one of those cone-shaped brushes for the inner wheel well, but what can I use to brush the stubborn brake dust areas on the wheel face?

By the way, the black specs that I can never get off kinda look like this (not my wheel)

Hopefully Sonax can dissolve this...

I did try to clay it to no avail, but it wasn't an aggressive clay...it also seems baked into the wheel...the surface is rough where the particles are

Cool. It should come in today. I was reading up on this stuff called Prosoco 600 that is almost certain to get it off. It is used for cleaning brick and mortar. I know it sounds harsh but if anything is diluted enough it shouldn't be too harmful. Have you ever heard of it?

Here is where I read up on it

Sonax Full Effect is a no-go. I was impressed with how well it did clean what was on a somewhat dirty wheel however. I didn't have to use my mitt to get the dirt off, it just rinsed off - pretty impressive. Best wheel cleaner I've used to date for sure. I don't see myself getting a lot of uses out of the tiny bottle however. I could even see it working on those black specks because it changed to a purple color. But for the most part the specks didn't budge. Maybe a handful came off.

After that I tried Bug and Tar Remover, Lighter Fluid, Clay, and nothing is taking them off. I think my only other choice is to use acid - or to just live with the spots if acid will ruin my wheels.

PLEASE do not use acid on your wheels as you will damage them.
Thanks. Yeah I am not planning on using acid, I think it's too risky. I got down there with a toothbrush on the spots with the Sonax still working on it and they didn't budge. I did this twice. Guess I need to just keep reapplying it and over time they will loosen up. But yeah they were definitely turning purple, I saw little purple trails dribbling down from the spots, it was kinda cool to see.

You could try eshine.ca, it's a Canadian site that I've used in the past.

Go to your local autoparts store (or Target/Walmart) and grab some of this:

Betting it will do the trick. Certainly worth a shot, it's cheap enough and easy to find.

I tried Bug & Tar Remover...I think it's made by turtle wax as well....it didn't do a thing. Maybe it's cuz the bottle is old.......

Sonax

Thinking of buying a bottle of the Sonax.
Has anyone used in on Miro CSL wheels? The finish is weak on Miros.
I have some brake dust dots I can't remove with Zaino soap.
Will Sonax damage the clearcoat on the Miro CSLs?

Sonax

I'm ordering a bottle of Sonax and will test it out on a small area of one wheel first. Miro doesn't make the CSL wheel any longer so I can't order a replacement if something goes wrong. Not that I would purchase Miro anything ever again. My list of detailing products to order, besides the Sonax, keeps growing! Talk about a cleaning OCD.

For really stubborn stains you'll need to remove the wheel to get the correct access to the barrels. Sonax works very well, I've tried a sample. As far as using an acid based wheel cleaner like Megs WB the trick is first diluting it down like at least 4:1 and always always always make sure the wheels are wet and do not let the cleaner dwell long enough to dry. I'm frankly more concerned with health issues on acid cleaners than the wheels so gloves and a mask are imperative if you go that route. Alternatively you could use various dilutions of an APC or try Amazing Roll Off as well. If Sonax does not get it done and removing and an aggresive clay does not help I'm saying you are SOL unless you try an aggressive cleaner.
