You own a 335. Why on earth would you get a beater?

BMW's are meant to be driven every day - it is not a Ferrari whose life span is 15k miles.

Whatever car I own, I daily drive it. Otherwise, I feel that I am just spending money to have the car look pretty in my garage.

The only exception to this rule is if you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, like Buffalo. In that case, having a pickup or an SUV is good, for the ground clearance.

Why not search a little further from your range? Maybe you'll come across a better deal. Take your son with you and have a little road trip back.

Personally I have a VW, car listed below. Anyways I've heard of all the issues but I haven't experienced one slight problem in nearly 2 years and 20k miles of driving. Any car has issues, including everyones awesome BMW's

I did find that cars in SoCal were all around 20k but I search throughout the northeast and there are several around $16-18k with <30k mi on them. It would be worth it for the trip or even to ship it.

Thanks. I just found out some more information about the car. All mods and performance upgrades were done by Group 5 Motorsport in San Diego. They are a well known and reputable performance shop. Matter of fact, they show the car in their Gallery as an example of their work. It had a different set of wheels back then and to me, it did not look as "dropped" as it does now. I am going to contact them and scoop up more information on the original owner and condition of the car.

I have an appointment to see the car and do a test drive on Saturday. We see how it goes

If you want just a beater to tool around in, I'd say that's a good choice Assuming it wasn't abused or other stuff I think it looks pretty solid. I say go for it if that's the kind of car you were looking for.

He has been on the interwebz much longer than all of us, comes with the age. I'm beginning to wonder how the nursing home puts up with his internet addiction. You know he has missed some bingo games for OT.

I think its a great daily driver.. GTI's hold their value pretty well, and like you said, it'll be a great car for your son as well. Even if you only do drive it for a couple of years (until your boy turns 16) you'd still save a bit of milage on your 3. Win/win situation.

Al Gore may have invented it but ...I OWN the whole interwebz, son. I am just allowing everyone have fun with it because it'd be a lonely place if it was not shared.
