I'd recommend for you to check out the AR design 3" catless downpipes. The AR Downpipes will give your N54 an exotic and aggressive exhaust note as well as a significant boost in horsepower. These downpipes also virtually eliminate turbo lag, and will make your car's engine even more responsive. you will need an O2simulator to prevent the check engine light from showing up. I'll go ahead and shoot you over a PM with more details!

AR's are def the most popular on the forum, there the go to DP's, but the new icarbon downpipes are very promising and seem just as good, as are the AA's.
As posted ETS uses a nice flex section and the facotry mounting bracket. Also have the CP-E Dp's which ive only heard good thins about which offers a stainless bellmouth casting by the turbo connecting end. |

So you need an O2 simulator to prevent the check engine light when you install AR catless DP's?
Also do these pass NY state emissions?

You will need an O2 SIM if you go with ANY catless downpipe. Otherwise, you will get a check engine light on the dash from increased emissions. I'm not too sure on the NY state emissions laws so you may want to check with up on your local laws.

Is the power gain significantly different between the catless and catted downpipes?

Thanks. And as far as the aggressive tone/turbo spool sound, sounds the same with both catted and catless as well?

Keeping an eye on this thread, I am basically torn (as of right now) between MS or AR. If MS are made in China I will get AR. If not, I will get MS coated because I feel like they are basically the same DP but cheaper... I don't think either have fitment issues and both are called 3" (until the late taper back to 2.5) and both are fully Stainless Steel. I can't find an advantage for AR except for fanboyz yelling "AR!" Plus there is that one AR employee that gets on my every last nerve... I won't call him out though.

I agree that AR are of the best available, just wondering if they are better than MS or those new Icarbon's look great too. 3" SS made in USA and coated that fit... competition forces producers to use the least costly methods of production and sell products at the lowest profitable prices. If AR DP's are superior then they are worth the extra price, otherwise they are attempting to advertise a brand name and collusively become a price leader in an oligopolistic market (sorry micro test this morning!)

Just had AR catless dp's installed 5 days ago great fit, no problems with the install. Turbo lag is definitely decreased and 3rd and 4th gear pulls feel stronger. No real sound change just slightly beefier sound and you can hear the turbos spool a little more.
I do not smell anything or have any fumes at all. All the fears i had from reading forms of people having problems with dp's none here. My 2 cents AR dp's are worth it piece of mind is always nice and I believe you get that purchasing AR. |

Does anyone know if the same aggressive tone/spool sound exists on the catted versus catless dps?
