I drove a 335is and was very impressed.
Are you considering trying the DCT in the IS? It is very impressive, even in a short test drive. That would obviously preclude a moded 335i with no DCT option in North America.

Just go drive it. Then decide.

Drive and decide...at the end of the day you will need to avoid any buyers remorse

Drove one for half a day, and then went back to mine with the mods. Sure I like the headlights and tail lights. Too much badging everywhere IMO. I don't need to be reminded of what I am driving, nor does my passenger. That's about all I like from that car. I still like the power of my car way better.
For me, the decision comes down to the transmission. The DCT is nice, and very handy for spirited driving. However, if you are not paying for the DCT, then I would not get an IS. I would get an I with some mods and it'll end up being cheaper $/hp and likely sound better too.
