I am a big fan of GIAC since my VW/AUDI days. Their flashes are top notch in every respect! COBB will definitely have to do more work to get to the same level of driveability and power delivery as GIAC.

That being said, the biggest problem that I have is the fact that I need to go to a GIAC dealer every time my ECU gets wiped from a firmware upgrade. Case in point: I've been driving since January with stock ECU running ISTA 2.40.2 because the nearest GIAC dealer could not get a "dump" file off my ECU. Yes, I can send the ECU straight to GIAC but that leaves me without my car for days and on top of that I have to pay for shipping. Also, there are 3 GIAC dealers in the Chicago area and all of them are at least 1 hour away from where I live.

I have a busy schedule and I really need the ability to reflash my own ECU. My car has 2 more years of warranty and chances are BMW will upgrade my firmware again.

The flexibility for being able to install/update my own ECU is by far the ONLY reason why I would switch from GIAC to COBB. If GIAC released a handheld flasher (not map switcher) then I'd gladly pay the price and stay with GIAC as their flashes are outstanding!

Again, I repeat myself, my switch is driven entirely by convenience!

Reason I picked Cobb over GIAC

Rob: will the 07s use the same maps already available to everyone else? If so, does this mean, the beta test will only test the flashing ability? Will the amount of flashing be the same as others?

Texas is a pretty big ass state. Even Dallas is a 3 hour drive to Austin. That is if you live on 35. If not add another hour or two lol.

hell, i'll be the first to say that you can test MY car - and i'll even drive in from Houston !!!!

i'm currently running JB4, ETS and DCI.

maybe some before and after dyno/logs !?!?

that would be amazing !!!
Most shops that install flashes will give you a free before and after dyno.

This is good news. I just got giac stg 2 so I'll be happy to see what cobb stg 2 dyno's look like in comparison to my dyno. Competition is good for the consumer!

I'm sorry I was thinking it was more like Rhode Island. I guess I need to study my US geography more. But honestly...6 hours round trip for an $850.00 mod and just think of all the fun you will have on the drive home.

I don't like the idea of that test. They should give an AP to the person who volunteers their car.

They may give a discount, but I can certainly say from experience, they won't give it to you.
