I thought the M3 would have the advantage over a 100 as well, but had some buddies do some runs and it was still a driver's race. Basically the person who got the jump would be in front, but overall they were quite even. The 335 even had a passenger.

BTW, the 335 in question was the white, wide-body e92 from technik. He claims the car is stock, engine wise, which I believe, however this particular 335 seemed a lot faster than other 335s I've seen and run.

to me it looked like the 335 had a little jump on the M5 and M3 but still, you can clearly see that the 335 was faster regardless....

It said those first videos of the 335i vs M3 were at 5500ft elevation?? The stock 335i should kill the M3. At 2700Ft, the stock 335i was trapping 3mph faster than my stock M3, at sea level, the stock M3 was 2mph faster than the stock 335i. The turbos help compensate somewhat for the thinner air.

Stock for Stock the E46 M3 is faster. There's no denying that. It handles sharper and it feels alot crisper too.

I ran 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.9 at 109.7mph with just an intake on street tires. I've never lost to a 335i here in the Bay Area. They were all 3-4+ cars behind by the end of 4th gear (~120mph).

Those video's that were posted cracks me up. 5500ft elevation. Riiight. Bring them down to sea level and you'll see a HUGE difference.

And if I remember correctly, the Stage 2 M3 in the video against the procede 335i wasn't running correctly. It was having some issues. A Stage 2 should walk a procede 335i without a problem.

Stock for stock at sea level the M3 will win, that's it...being turbo'ed the 335 will have the edge at higher elevation where N/A cars gasp for air, the 335 simply recycles and compresses it to burn its fuel...

I owned an M3 for awhile before moving to 335i...stock for stock, both equal drivers, M3 will beat it by a couple car lengths to 140

It's a drivers race. In real world driving, the 335 is the faster car. At my elevation (4,500ft) 335 will win all the time.

The M3 has a little better top end pull at the end of the 1/4 mile. I have made dozens of runs. My 335i has never gone much more than 105mph, and the M3 has trapped over 107mph. That is about a 20hp difference to makeup that speed. The 335i is so close in ET because it has tremendous torque down low...but the 335i feels so weak comparitively in the upper RPM ranges, where as the M3 loves being over 6500RPM compared to the 335i which does not.

The M3 despite out torqued, has a better smoother acceleration throughout the RPM band...the higher red line is a plus for high end pulls...it is a much better/more fun care to drive than the 335i...i think most of the 335i owners who never owned an M3 before speculate that its faster because some retards they race can't drive an M3 properly...to get the most of out it you gotta stay in the upper RPM band....it's like a sportbike, no power down low, it loves to rev...the LSD and stiffer suspension helps it jump the gun better than the 335, hence the lower 0-60...i love my 335 now cause it's so smooth and refined...but no doubt, E46 M3 is one hell of a car...

When it first came out, it was king of the street (reality wise) 7 years later, it still hold its ground...do not disrespect it, that car will go down in my books as the best all around car ever...i just wanted to try something different and tinker with the turbos...so i sold it...i will own an E46 M3 again some day..

FWIW: I live at sea level and in over two dozen runs have yet to be beat by a stock M3 to 150 mph...

E46's were both '04 SMG

Because it's true. Stock for Stock, E46 M3's are still faster. And it's not only M3 owners who are agreeing, but it's also the magazine testers, BMW NA themselves and people who have tracked both cars. There were stock M3's breaking mid/high 12's and trapping higher mph than 335i's.

Read the reviews. They all say the 335i is a fast car that's only slightly slower than the E46 M3. The word "slower" is used because it IS still slower. Yea yea once you PROcede the 335i which UPS the boost and richen's the fuel curve... it's gonna be much faster thanks to the twin turbo. But just think about it this way. Not only is the E46 M3 7 years older and has NO turbos, but it handles better and still faster than a stock 335i. It's easy to squeeze out 300-400HP from an Inline-6 Twin Turbo. It takes ALOT more engineering and $$ to produce a Natural breathing 3.2L Inline-6 to produce 340HP. No wonder it won International Engine of the Year 6 times in a row ABOVE Porsche's flat 6.

8000rpm redline, stiffer chassis, lighter, closer gear ratios, LSD, etc. It's still a better track car. It still laps the nurburgring buslengths ahead of the 335i. Talk about the CSL, and the 335i won't even be in the rearview mirror. And have you heard? The 335i has a weak top end. Doesn't the power curve drop on top? Which means you have to shift earlier to stay in the powerband to get the fastest times? You have to UNDERSHIFT the 335i to be at its fastest? uhh.... yea.

Oh and have you checked out the HPF Turbo M3's? STOCK ENGINE and STOCK EXHAUST, the car was hitting almost 700HP. It was walking on built single Turbo Supra's. Think about a 4" inch DP and straight through exaust, forged internals and twice the boost. 1000wHP is not that hard. TaZaM3 is about to break that barrier soon with his Turbo M3.

I find it funny how some people can be so biased without actually ever owning an M3...

Stock for stock, no way with equal drivers, will the M3 lose to a 335i...

How about you take your 335i, and i'll be the one driving the M3 and see what happens...

I didn't buy this car because it's a better car than the M3, i bought this car because it is cheaper to go faster than the M3...plus i like the new iDrive gadgets...

But no one can take away from the looks and sheer driving excitement the M3 has to offer...
