BTW, Maybe this particular thread hasn't stated that the EVO would lose due to cost but after hanging out and just reading for months I can say that it is said very frequently on this site and it is plain ignorance. I thought that by purchasing a $50,000+ car the forums would be slightly less juvenile than the other car forums but so far it isn't true. They won't even allow you to talk about street racing on the EVO forums or you'll get temporarily banned. Vids are posted here all the time. |

Numerous posts on this forum state that as fact I just thought I would start letting people know it isn't true. Not meant to hurt feelings just to open some eyes. Maybe it didn't apply during this post but it has in a lot more. |

When we drive up to Montgomery for the 1/4 mile the slowest run out of 15 cars was a 12.6 and he is new to the EVO community. I am running 11.7@118 on race gas and Methanol and 12.0@115 on pump gas and Methanol. My 60fts are always 1.61-1.65. I didn't buy the 335i for a race car, it is to expensive to void the warranty on it. I love the pedigree of the Bimmer for cruising and daily driving. I love the uncanny ability of the EVO to excel at Drag strip/ Road Racing/ SCCA Events and Porsche car club Events. There is nothing like passing a Porsche Turbo in a 30k car with 5k in well planned mods. Albeit he might be a rookie driver that owns a car way out of his league it still feels good. -Nate |

Yes we love being below sea level and having nice cool winter months without snow. Makes for some awesome drag times. BTW, those times were done with the stock Yokohama ADVAN tires. Thanks I really like this community thus far. -Nate |

Tell your buddy hes in an ugly ass piece of shit looking mistubishi that looks like my ass shit crap, and to remeber hes racing a beautiful, pussy magnet, hot ass BMW. At the end of the day, whos in the overall 15 million times nicer car, k thanks bye |

In all seriousness, why are Evos even mentioned on this forum. In my opinion, one car is out of the other's league. Quite often, those who drive BMWs do it for the performance, the feel, the looks, the certain prestige that comes with the name >BMW< Those who drive Evos are most often doing it because they are interested in what kind of ETs and quarter mile times they could get. Don't tell me they bought a 33,00 dollar evo for the looks, because it is nowhere near aesthetically pleasing. My point is, BMWs and evos should never be compared and a guy in BMW shouldnt be wasting his time racing an EVO. k thanks

Doesnt the evo have garbage for a tranny?? From what i remember i only read bad reviews on the transmission of that car... Just wait for LSD and turbo swaps on 335's! Then we will see what happens!

My tranny has seen plenty drag racing time and hard track time as well. I have no issues at all. I get 1.61-1.65's all day long with no issues. The guys that put 600+ Awhp down start having issues after hard launches at the strip. Then they need to upgrade to a Shepard tranny which is almost bullet proof. I will go out on a limb and say that is probably a typical problem when more than doubling the manufacturers HP on just about any car. The 335i's tranny will probably need some loving attention after we start breaking into the same numbers. Some 2003's had issues with the open diff up front but that was about it. In 2004 the MR got the front LSD and now all 2005-2006 models have it. The LSD in front is incredibly strong and I have heard of no issues. But hey, I have both and truly am neutral. I just want to make sure that everyone hears it from an actual owner and not just hear say. As far as an LSD and Turbo swap goes just remember that the EVO has one of the most comprehensive AWD systems on the market and its engine has been in service for the better part of 20 years. Now if you said the 335xi, now we might be able to talk. Time will tell on that baby... Cheers, -Nate Last edited by GTRNate; 03-12-2007 at 12:20 AM.. |

Moreover the transmission are very tough, there are many Evos out there with 500-600-700 and even 900whp with the stock transmission like the autoplus Evos from the Philipines or like the 900whp Norris Evo from the UK. Off course you are going to find a lot of people that still breaks their tranny due toi excesive track use and what not but they are very well built specially from 05 and up. If you want to talk about weak transmissions, then I strongly concur that the weakest tranny on a "sports car" is the WRX 2003-2004, that is a true garbage gearbox, I broke 2 in less than 2 months. Those trannys are made of glass bro. my .2c Carlos |

If you drag / track your car on a regular basis it will eventually give up, it doesnt matter how much hp you have.
Eventually the tranny in my car will give up.

Owning both I have to say you buy the Evo to go racing. That's what it does and it's pretty damn good at it. It's a one trick pony.
The 335 is much more of a complete daily driver that still pretty quick and is fun to drive "spiritedly". It's not a car I would want to flog around the race track like I do my Evo. Oh yeah, and the Evo will more than likely win the race unless it is a top end thing. Evo aerodynamics = brick wall Last edited by hotrod2448; 03-12-2007 at 06:46 PM.. |
