First post...yahoo for me. Anyways, I am in the Army currently in Iraq and have been talking to Pentagon Car Sales. I think it would be a great deal but I really want to avoid paying sales tax when I return home and take the car. Texas (where I live) charges 6.25% on vehicles. Does anyone know some ways around this? Thanks for the help in advance.

Tip for saving on sales tax in your state.

This is a reply to "staindsoul" in Texas.

Check with your DMV (Dept of Motor Vehicles) in Texas, you can probably check online (yahoo or google search).

My state of California call the sales tax on a car purchase "use tax". The rule here in California is, if the car is delivered before 90 days from time of payment, you have to pay the tax. The trick is to have it delivered after 90 days. Work with the dealer and shipper, and bmw, and this can easily be done.

Another option is to pick it up yourself in Germany, drive it around and drop it off at the port, again check with your own state's DMV rules.

Good-Luck

Thanks Silverfox. I haven't ruled out the possibility of letting them use the car as a demo and saving another $2500 off the price. That would put about 2k miles on the car. Would that help with the tax savings as well?

Picking up the car in Germany is not a possiblity as I am leaving Iraq straight back to Texas. Would be fun though...
