Good call, letting the key sip off the bolt-head while apply torque is a sure way to fuck it up!

Get a decent calibrated 1/2" drive torque-wrench, a 3" drive extension and apply pressure "into" the wheel while torquing up as suggested.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with the keys, it's the monkeys at the tyre fitters using impact wrenches that fuck them up!

EDIT:

I'll eat my own words if I trash my key!!

Thats for sure, a lot of care needs to be taken with McGards If the care is taken nothing is going to happen, so they becoe the best locking wheel nuts once again :P
