Since you are curious, my warranty on the 335 expired in December of last year, not that it matters. My point wasn't to point out whether or not you have a warranty. It was to point out how coming to this thread and bashing Dinan doesn't contribute at all to the OP. Especially considering if he had Cobb, GIAC, JB, or Procede in this situation he would be SOL. I don't think anyone will try and argue that Dinan is the best or fastest tune, but when you are still under warranty and have a major problem such as the OP, it is really nice knowing that you won't be slammed with a huge repair bill.

As others had metioned, BMW NA has nothing to do with this.
If Dinan doesn't do anything to fix this then the title of the thread should be "Dinan is Worthless". Every time a car is flashed with a Dinan product, every dealer will know once you take the car in for a repair or warranty work. Dinan is pretty much stamped and associated with your VIN.

I wonder what the repair estimate would be at a local shop? Why does he have to get an entirely new engine? I understand the repair hours on this can be huge, but $12,000?

Magnuson Moss does not cover a vehicle where the engineered specifications have been altered. Dinan would be your only option as far as a warranty is concerned but if the tune didn't cause the failure then you're on your own. This is the problem with modding.

In one phone call and 2 days of waiting, Dinan ordered a complete brand new motor from germany at a tune of $18,000. I challenge anyone running a piggy back tune to have the company buy the customer a new motor. The money I spent on Dinan was worth every cent, for the fun and the piece of mind. Glad I didn't spend the coin on a plastic box.....

It would have been nice if the field guy from BMW took some time to talk to you and let you know that your warranty was voided because of the of the Dinan tune so you will need to work with them. That would have help alot. Your motor would have gone bad with or without a tune. It's a good thing you had a tune since the rod would most likely gone out when you would have been out of warranty without it.

BMW NA, well that's another story, my own personal exposure to them has been somewhat less than stellar as well or even what I would consider acceptable "customer service", sadly a lot like what you experienced, i.e., lack of any care after the purchase has been made! Yea you can not knock Dinan for their support when BMW wouldn't do anything when i was having issues with turbos. (I kept having low boost codes) Dinan stated BMW turbos are not built very well and has some wastegate flaws. So Dinan sent me turbos they had built to handle the extra boost no questions asked. Hopefully I shouldn't have any turbo problems again.

Congrats on this and kudos for Dinan for stepping up. In the 19+ years I've owned BMW's I have seen countless Dinan tuned cars get warrantied for things BMW denied. Time and again they step up and the only thing people like Litos can spew is the haterade. Dinan is pricey, not of range for me frankly, but for those who can afford it they step up. BMWNA has a long standing policy of being very secretive in their dealings with field engineers, market managers and the such. I've dealt with them on warranty matters, extensions and such so I feel I have a degree of understanding of how they operate as far as how they provide information about issues to the general public, it's done for their own corporate good and you can't really fault that tactic but it is rather annoying. Try getting the name, phone number or email contact of the market manager or field engineer for your area when dealing with warranty items from them. Finding Bin Laden was possibly easier.
Also as someone else stated the minute you alter your vehicle outside of the Manufacturers engineering specs the MM act is of no value. People please understand the MM Act was drawn up to protect consumers in the general household and appliance market to be protected from shady manufacturers and applied across other markets including automotive later on. It's very general in nature as such and the lanuguage governing the warrantied aspects is very specific as too allowances for deviation from factory delivered products. The auto manufacturers know this all too well and frankly laugh when people try to throw the MM Act tirade at them. |

I like BMW NA... they're helping me with a dealership that broke some of my plastic engine pieces during recall, warranty work. Minor stuff, but irritating... the dealer won't take responsibility. Easy to deal with so far.

Dinan stopped giving BMWNA the VINs in 2008. But I suppose most or all BMW/Dinan dealers still do record Dinan upgrades in the BMW system.
