Helix is also selling upgraded turbos. 2500 for just the turbos or 3200 for the turbos and all hardware. Check out the following link:

Make them explain what the downpipes did to the turbos to void the warranty. Take them to court if you have the time, but theres always the chance of loosing.

There's a large chance of losing. Any alteration to the system can void warranty. Fmic, DPs, etc - flow characteristics change outside of validated parameters.

I would still deny.

Tell them its a glitch and that the car is wrong.

If I was going in for turbo problems the last thing I would do is leave any evidence of modifications. Just saying.

On top of it, the DPs feed right into the turbos (and even touch the turbo). All BMW has to do is spit out the words "calibrated", "precise", and then string a few complicated sounding words together in a sentence from one of their master techs and you're a goner.

Since the issue is just your wastegates, can't you get them tightened for fairly cheap?

Am I understanding this right.... You went in for service without first checking and clearing codes?

They do not have to.

Would leaving an intake and BOV in when going to the dealership void your warranty. I know technically it can, but the majority of people told me I should be fine. Any thoughts?

A BOV would definately void or cause warranty issues. An intake shouldn't, provided everything is installed correct and all tubes/etc. are connected as they should be.

O2 codes aren't all that rare to see. But you need to make sure everything else is stock.

The warranty only applies to a non-modified vehicle. On top of that, messing with the catalytic converters on a street car isn't legal. So you really don't have anything to be said in court...

This is why a Bavarian Technic Cable is such an important tool to have while owning a modded N54. You can pick them up used all day long on this forum and they have so many cool functions besides the code clearing abilities.

Anytime you are going in for turbo issues or a MAJOR issue arises, ALWAYS TAKE OFF TUNES, MODS (directly related if possible), ETC to make sure you don't end up in a similar situation as this OP has.

I wouldn't call them minimal by any means! The price per horsepower gets expensive the higher you go. And once our fuel system gets beefed up, look out! If they kill your warranty, you are going to spend nearly the same for OEM snails anyways ($700 each and BMW will rape you on labor).

Try a different dealer and play dumb. Anyone walking into a service department talking waste gates and downpipes is HUGE red flag for any dealer. Tell them there's this funny noise and hope for the best.

If you're SOL then explore other options. I wouldn't push your luck too much. I'm guessing it's pretty obvious that work was done on your car, they're just talking about the code. No way you can install and uninstall DP's and not have it be obvious. Every state is different but most take a VERY dim view of removing or altering your emission controls - especially cats. Though I doubt it happens often in practice, I'm sure it's a violation of most state's or even federal law. I seriously doubt you'd win this one if there is physical evidence along with codes.

When I traded in a car last year I had to sign a document stating that I had not altered, removed or disabled any part of the emission control system.

Here's my take... You modded the car, you tried to cover it up, you got caught. Now your pissed at them??? Come on. I mod my car too, and I unistall the tune before I take it in too, but if you get caught isn't it time to man up and accept it! I mean you did void the warranty! you violated the contract. We all do. Don't be a douche- pay to have your car fixed.

I have a WG rattle noise EVERY time my car shifts from 1st to 2nd. I thought this was a normal thing?

Or is the WG rattle your talking about something else?

My car is running great... so I didnt think anything of it.

Thanks, Travis

BMW in their latest cars have a system called TELESERVICE, when you visit the dealership and claim an issue if the car is under warranty the mechanic, as a standard procedure, connects the car from the OBD II port (on the left under the stearing wheel) to the BMW Network then it runs diagnostics remotely from their system located in Germany. The logs are stored globally for International Insurance purposes. Im not talking theories or imaginative scenarios, my car went under that process when i thought i had W/G rattle.
