Sorry for bumping an old thread but I tried for 2 hours to replace the molding and haven't been successful.
I can easily slide the drives side on and get about 2/3 of the way across the windshield but cannot get the last 1/3 to snap into place. Any help?? |

Bumping this DIY. Just replaced the top molding on my 08 E90. Garage kept and hardly ever sat in the sun until I bought the car 2 years ago, now it bakes in the sun while I'm at work. I started getting a leak from the top of the windshield when going through a high-pressure touchless car wash, so time to replace this piece.
No problem getting mine out, but had a hell of a time getting the new piece in. Found a tip from another thread to start from 4-6 inches towards the middle of the car instead of trying to push it in right at the edge of the windshield where the gap is a bit tighter. Push the trim in, then slide it to the edge. Do the same thing on the passenger side. Now you can push the trim in across the windshield. I started getting some resistance part way across. Some people said they used plastic trim tools to push it in. Since I didn't have access to those, I ended up using a nylon bike tire lever. Worked like a charm. Good luck! |
