Just looked up the eBrochure for both cars -
BMW X1: 4453mm Evoque (3 door): 4355mm Evoque (5 door): 4365mm The Evoque 5 door is a full 90mm shorter than an X1. For comparison my 1er coupe is 4360mm which is actually LONGER than an Evoque 3 door, and only 5mm shorter than the 5 door. The bloody thing is TINY.

Just got back from the LR dealer, lots to report on!
1. Sizing After all this talk of how the car is going to look like a high riding 1series or something, well it's built on a LR Freelander platform and has an identical wheelbase. The overhangs are rather short though which is why the numbers indicate such a short overall length.. but it's going to have a very similar size to the Freelander. They even use the same back seat (for the 5door). The rear will be rather sloping though, so if you stand at the C pillar/D pillar, you'll be able to look across the roof of the car. 2. Arrival date 33 cars are coming to Aus in November. Most are spoken for but still some available for the current year. 5 cars will be available for test drives in Aug/Sep. 3. Options & Pricing Well this is a sub 60k car.. but I specc'd the basic options in my hypothetical build and OTR price was $92k: - SD4 engine (140kw diesel), auto transmission (manual would be 2.5k less) - Dynamic (2k cheaper than the pure, but the best looking on the outside by far. Has that good looking lower front air intake and body coloured lower mouldings) - Metallic paint (white would be $1.5k less) - Tech pack (nav, xenons, sunroof etc, $5.9k option) The other option available on the Dynamic model is a the dynamic plus pack (a further $6k or something). The only feautre of this that caught my eye was absolutely awesome seats. The base seats are pretty sport bucket units already but these ones are like recaro style... like something out of an Audi RS model. 4. Performance The 140kw diesel with auto tranny is rated 0-100 in 8.5 secs. Manual for some reason is 1.5secs slower... go figure. The 190kw petrol is rated at 7.6secs with the auto tranny. Fuel consumption for the diesels are mid 6s (therefore you pay less LCT on the diesels) and the petrol was sub 10. By the way the car is expected to be about 100-150kg lighter than a freelander... so with the freelander coming in at 1.8tonne, if the car weighs 1.7tonnes, that's not too bad 5. Other stuff As part of their preferential corporate program etc etc I'd be entitled to 3 years free servicing (big bonus). Overall, well now that I know it's going to have similar dimensions to a freelander it's back on my radar... just bummed about the price cause I was hoping for 70-80k. It'll definitely look good in the metal. Sloping rear may take some getting used to but I'm sure these will sell. I'm still tempted to put a deposit on a car. As long as you order a popular colour (black/grey/white) the deposit is refundable... dealer said if I ordered the electric green one with green interior i'd have to be committed to it lol. |

Freelanders are pretty roomy
I've had a go at a fair few freelanders and they are perfect for daily driving, high seating posistion, torquey engine, very flat cornering ability for a car on stilts but the steering is so fucking over-assisted Im going to have a look when they arrive in the flesh. Need to find my lil brother a cool 4WD |

For that much money...I can't justify a sexed up FL. Engines aren't that great IMO and gives pretty poor performance. Needs a 6. I'd pocket the extra $10k and grab an X3 30d instead. Nowhere near as sexy but man...that's as steep premium with options more ridiculous than BMW.

ROFL at electric green...Thanks for posting this bmrox, freelander size is doable for me as well but i will wait and see the actual car in person when it arrives. Diesel is a bit of a slug though...petrol will no doubt be thirsty, with my driving at least. Options are hefty as hell and those seats i remember seeing them online look absolutely awesome. Did they give you a catalogue? Which dealer did you visit?

Yep I've got a catalogue... unfortunately doesn't have pics of the seats.
I'll scan/upload some images from the catalogue at home tonight. Options aren't too bad... you def need the tech pack (6k)... auto for 2.5k is alright, as is metallic paint for 1.5k... but I mean that's 10k on top of the sticker. It's more likely I'll wait a little while... at least until dealers start giving discounts off the RRP. Jeff it definitely is a bit more expensive than comparable vehicles.. but it's damn sexy. Rear will have less headroom than FL but that was never the issue for me, rather it was if the car is going to look like a chode or not. |

these are the seats with the dynamic plus pack...
standard seats hardly look like they are wanting for support though.. AND the leather in the RR Evoque is the same as in the RR & RR sport... it's called winstone leather or something. Dynamic evoque gets perforated leather with two tone colouring Prestige model gets single colour non-perforated (looks better imo) but you can't swap 'em around |

Stu, totally agreed on the looks and the interior quality of the Evoque. However...the engines and price are real killers. 4cyl engines don't make the cut.
