An associate of mine (can't say friend as he's not lol) buys his women expensive jewelry etc all the time... but that's expensive by my standards.

if you don't think she's the kinda girl that's a user (she don't look like it), then I say go for it, as long as the gesture is understood within context by both you and her. I never bot my girl any diamonds until the one that went on her finger, but did waste plenty of money on other crap for anniversaries, bdays, etc. (she's always been a down to earth girl who's been trying to save for a place, take care of her dad, etc...i admired that)

if you're doing it just to impress her, don't do it, it'll be a waste. if you're doing it because you think she deserves it, then go for it.

and to answer your original question, 1k is a bit thin for quality diamond earrings, you'll probably need a bigger budget, which then skews this even more. That said, you don't need super high clarity/cut/color for earrings because they don't get as much light as a stone on a ring, so they're not as noticeable (spent a long time researching diamonds when I bot the ring). if a jeweler tells you otherwise, they're just trying to make you spend more than you need to. if i were you, i'd get her a different type of stone, perhaps birthstone? better budget wise, and perhaps more fitting for the occasion. if she's truly the one, save some of your budget, cause that ring you get will put anything you're doing now to shame anyway
