LOL this is such an easy mod to do...

Get on the floor and look at the drivers side exhaust.....youll see the flap and on top of it youll see a arm that closes and opens it.....conected to that is a round thing with a rubber tube.
That rubber tube is a vaccum line, All you have to do it unplug the rubber tube thats connected to the round metal thing and plug it(so that it is air tight)
You either want to use a golf tee of bend the line and zip tie....many use duct tape but you must make it air tight!
Its definetly worth it, In sports mode the flap isnt open at 2000 rpm and thats the sweet spot! Between 2000-3000 is where the engine is loudest and the golt tee really makes an amazing sound for such a simple "mod"

Because I know it doesn't throw any codes according to my Procede, and I can just cut the zip tie before taking to dealer and redo after getting my car back. **** I do not know if unplugging will throw any codes. ****

Edit: Unplugging the actuator plug inside the trunk will throw a code but from my searching 90% of the time the dealer never bothers with it.

Ok, so just so I'm clear, both ways will do the same thing? Which is keep the "flap" open to give louder exhaust sound?

Both do the same thing...but plugging the vacuum hose is a lot easier and you don't have to mess with the car's electronics.

I ended up unplugging the tube under the car, placed a vacuum cap on the metal piece and the hose, slid the hose back into the bumper and was on my way.

Took it in for the recall HPFP fix last week, took longer to crawl to the ground than it did to pop the vacuum caps and plug it back in.

Maybe someone could explain the function of the split dual exhaust. Don't all the exhaust manifold ports come off the same side of the engine? The split exhaust in that setup looks like marketing to me.

I unplugged the actuator inside the trunk yesterday. Almost no change in sound at idle, the flap was open during idle before the "mod" anyway.

Noticed a significant change around 1000 to 2500 rpms with light throttle input, especially in 3rd gear and up. Also blips are much louder when downshifting (DCT). Same for burbles when i let off the gas

I used an airgun BB. Stuffed it in the vacuum line and reconnected the line to the actuator. Sounds great. Throws no codes. Have had it to the dealer several times for oil changes, replacement tires, replacement wheel (gotta love pot holes and tire insurance). No issues. Love the sound on acceleration, cruising and downshifting.

Just did mine yesterday. It's nice to see such a simple and effective mod work as advertised. The exhaust sounds great now!

Anyone experience any loss of torque especially in the low RPM range as a result of doing the golf t mod?

I only ask because it has been reported on other sites as a neg result of keeping the flap open at low speeds.

Here's where it is in the older 335 convertibles:

Once you've done it a few times, I'd say it only takes a few minutes to do. It does throw a code, which you can clear if you have the Procede or other tools, but the dealer may ignore it too if you don't clear it as it's pretty harmless. It might signal to them though that you're a modder...

Otherwise, go with a BB in the tube and it'll throw no codes, and to get it out (it is hard to do), just spray a bit of WD40 in the tube, and then squeeze it out easily with your finger by pinching the tube right behind the BB and working it out.

I didn't want to zip tie the tube as I figured over time it puts too much stress on the tube to be tied like that.

besides its an instant fix to the many 335's that have flaps that rattle annoyingly (including my own).

was just in the shop having my coilovers installed, and the two other 335 drivers there, were complaining about the flap rattle sound too. everyone got it done, not simply because of any cooler exhaust sound, but rather to fix the annoying rattle, which it did.

I had dinan exhaust installed on my car last week by the dealer. Video here (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=566143) They plugged the hose and zip tied the line up. So I couldn't see why you'd have to change it before taking it in for service, since they use the same method!

My flap rattled all the time on startup. Golf tee mod took care of that. I just unplugged in trunk.

You can buy plastic/vinyl vacuum line caps on Amazon for ~$5-6 (and probably even less at a hardware store where they may sell them in smaller packages) that slide onto the tube and can be removed with minimal effort. It looks better than a zip tie and won't get stuck like a BB, but it's certainly not as a cheap as golf tee if you happen to have those laying around.

Exactly how do I locate the vacuum line to plug it? I want to do this not only for the slight increase in sound but my exhaust rattles like crazy during cold starts, I'm guessing its the flapper, so I'm thinking if I plug it the rattling will stop.

Thanks
