just finished doing this, thanks for the help! My only question is I did not do the full flush, so I did not remove the IC, and I added the entire bottle of coolant(1gal) and took about 1/2 gal of distilled water. So the ratio I used was 25/75 distilled water to Coolant, 50/50 is recommended and some use 75/25. Any issues with this mix?

Great dyi.
I used this to do my partial coolant change. I also filled wit distilled water and drained before adding the final coolant mix. I probably should have filled with distilled water and drained twice as the water coming out was bluer than I thought it would be.

What do you do with the old coolant?

Is it just me, or are the pictures gone? I only see the photobucket third party hosting error.

If not taking off the IC, isn't it just as good to:
1) Drain as much as possible
2) Close the drain, fill it with a couple gallons of distilled water
3) Run the engine briefly to mix up the distilled water and any residual coolant
4) Re-drain it (water+residual coolant)
5) Close the drain
6) Fill with 1 gallon pure coolant and then add new distilled water to fill?
7) Run air-bleed procedure

Per Bentley manual, N55 engine with AT, capacity is 8.4L (2.23 Gallons). So after adding 1 gallon of pure coolant + 1.23 gallon water, you're almost exactly at 50/50... (comes out to 45/55).

I flushed the coolant completely and i poured 1 gallon of BMW coolant but when i tried filling it up with the distilled water it would only take lil less than half a gallon. I did the bleeding procedure twice but still not taking more than half a gallon. The mix is 70/30 at the moment.
The capacity is 8.4L? But why is the dip stick all the way out with about 6L? I Should i take lil bit of coolant out and mix the rest with the other half a gallon of water?

They sell the hydrometer that measures the strength adjust it back to 50/50
