They are, sporting 185/65 HR 14 Pirelli P6s which were incredibly exotic at the time.

Nice trip down memory lane.
I actually think the standard XR3i (series 1) is cooler than the RS1600i or the RS Turbo. Check out the bumperettes! Mind these are quite nice. Were these all white?

S1 is reserved for the Turbo!! S1 all day long for me.

Why is it not just Mk3 RS Turbo - was there an S1 RS Turbo Mk3 and an S2 RS Turbo Mk3? Just stumbled on this by co-incidence on PH. Apparently Princess Di had the only non-white S1 RS Turbo - in black....pictures in this link: http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=52&i=23965

there were a couple of non white Series1's. the mk3 rs turbo is a series 1, the mk4 rs turbo is a series 2. the "series" part was for turbo cars only.
Heres my fully restored S1 (well when I say fully, i'm just getting round to doing the engine just now as it happens, a year after I completed the chassis, not concours by any means) stripped down: Engine currently sit's like this: loads still to do, I never really properly finished it...engine will have stg3 big valve head, bigger IC, kent cam and vernier pulley, converted to EFI. thinking of selling it for a sapph cosworth though :-\ had to stop mysef, can get carried away talking about it lol.

No just a Mk3 and Mk4 RS Turbo, later named by enthusiasts S1 & S2
XR's were not called S1 and S2 just Mk3 or MK4 XR3i If someone owns a S1 it's an RS Turbo mate, not an XR!

But the RS1600i looks identical to the XR3 other than the RS wheels - most would not know the difference. It had "bumperettes" too.

The 16i was quicker than a S2 though. Short ratio box iirc. Would love an RS1600i
If you ask me Ford really lost their way when they dropped the XR,RS brands So long as they don't bring back the xr2 ;-) |

I hated the MK2 fiesta XR2 with a passion.
Loved the MK3 hence having had 2 XR2i's and a Fiesta RS Turbo. Love your S1 mate!

Sod the RS1600i, lovely collectors car but the Turbo's were where it's at.
Bit like our 335i's & 335d's today etc. Lovely tunableness!!!!! Got an old mag of when the Festa RS Turbo came out and they tested a 200HP one. 0-100mph in 12.8 secs!! That was quicker than the magazines editors brand new 911 at the time!!

RS1600i main difference was the gearbox ratios, suspension and solid lifters. The CVH engine was pretty shit as a unit.

It's an old Donky lump for sure. Was reliable enough though. Valve stems seals would
go and the top end would with lack of servicing and high mileage. The turbo ones only really got unreliable with silly tuning.
