Looking a bigger engine too, no point in plumping for a bigger engined SE when you can have an M Sport. ![]() Im a believer of 'if you dont have anything useful to say, then dont say it at all', maybe you should follow the same basis... |

Don't skimp on the engine - but if you are on a budget just go second hand (or slightly older) to get the best engine/spec you can (IMO). Interesting signature. Are you involved in some kind of drug related enterprise? Quote:

![]() Engine doesnt really matter that much, as long as its at least a 320d, they can be mapped to give pretty good results. I'll probably steer clear from ones with leather, yes its nice when the car is new but the condition of the leather can deteriorate over the years. And my signature, no im not involved in a drug enterprise ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Clearly a lot of people agree on the "I'd rather have a smaller-engined M-sport than any SE" from the numbers of debadged and 4-pot M-sports I see about the place. SE's seem comparatively rare sometimes!
Mileage and the sorts of roads you drive on ought to be a major factor. In a job where I do a lot of miles, I made a pact with myself on some particularly potholed Peak District roads a couple of years ago that my next car would not be an S-Line, M-Sport or whatever. For reasons of ride/handling and replacement costs I also ditched the staggered 18" RFT for 225 17's all round. Result: hugely reduced replacement costs, and significantly improved handling. Unlike some Audi setups (which vary from soggy SE to bone-crunching S-Line) the SE is still pretty firm - firm enough for anything but track driving for sure - some pretty car-savvy friends of mine have been surprised how firm it is for an SE. Likewise I've been surprised how supple the M-Sport is (18" RFT aside) - the difference is mainly a styling exercise. Personally I've given up deluding myself that anyone else gives a toss what my car looks like - I think I've achieved an early middle age! People should buy whatever makes them feel good - personally that's a great engine (I got hooked on 6+ cylinders and petrol only by the age of 25), great handling, and tyres that are not too wide to take the fun out of driving, together with refinement and comfort that makes even the longest journeys a pleasure. Agreed the SE seats look crap - but they are hugely comfortable. I haven't done successive 6+ hour driving days in the sports ones to compare, but they are certainly more bolstered. Each to their own - but don't think you M-Sporters are the only ones having fun ![]() |
