Wouldn't get worried about BMW dealers using Castrol, it isn't the ultimate in lubricating oil and the reccomendations are merely a sponsorship deal. I believe the cars come with Fuchs oil in as new so that may be an option, or Mobil 1 is very good as are Shell oils, not sure what their current LL04 oil is.
Used to make lubricating oil base stocks for a living until the technology our refinery had became outdated and too expensive to run, Mobil and Shell were always considered the best by anyone you asked in the industry!

When I looked on my last service oil change they charged nearly £100 just for the oil for a 330d.

I got 10 litres of Fuchs Titan Pro S 5W-40 from Opie Oils for £79 delivered, which I thought was pretty good. They tell me me (well Tony "E92 Fan" does, anyhow) it is the best oil for the 335i.

I agree that lining main dealer pockets for their mark up on oil is a waste of money.

Mike.
