Come to think of it, after i know the layout of the E92...it's not that bad anymore, it's just annoying because of the variety of the size of the bolts...and the fact that the rear struts spin freely unless u have something holding it down...

I'm Raider...but yeah i perfected the methods...after you do 2 or 3 you get used to it, then i went on to do another 15 more for members around locally... u probably knocked something out of place, an alignment will cure it....

Wow, talk about resurrecting an old thread...
With the right tools it's not so bad. "2 way" bolts is pretty normal, just put a wrench there to hold and ratchet the other side... It shouldn't add much to the difficulty level. Use an impact gun on the top nut. On the rear lower control arm, unbolt it to get the spring out and use a jack to position the arm back into the right place. Yeah, it's more of a pain than others I've worked on but in the end it was not an issue when I had enough tools around and some patience. A friend would help lots too, I did it on my own and spent most of the day doing it.

Haha... its back from the dead!
I ended up installing my coilovers as well. Some parts of the install were frustrating like the lower rear bolt (camber bolt? I don't remember the proper name of it) that required two jacks and a scissor jack to get the control arm positioned correctly to get it back in. Also the top nut on the front struts was a PITA to torque down to spec. Anything short of using a vice grip with rubber bands on it would do nothing to hold the strut in place while I torqued it down, and I tried everything (impact wrench, strap wrenches, etc). In the end it was a learning experience and if you know how to work on suspension and have some patience then it is still a DIY job, although it was more difficult than other cars I have installed suspension on in the past.

there are a few tools that make swapping the suspension in this vehicle much less painful.
1) 1/2 impact gun 2) 3/8 impact gun 3) air compressor to drive these tools 4) strut spreader tool... THIS is a life saver. |
