Is your ac on when this vibration occurs?
I have been dealing with a winding sound, coming off the throttle, in M during higher rpms. I have an AT and drive in manual shift mode. When the AC is on it oscillates / winds like crazy. Turn odd the ac and it stops.

Can't capture a vibration on video and the noise it makes is not loud enough for the mic to capture it with all the other background noises. I've searched already and can't find anyone else with this particular issue. This whole thing is stressful and to be honest I hate driving my car now.

No, AC is not on when it happens. Everything is off. They suspect there's an imbalance somewhere in the engine but they have no idea where.

Update: #2
Brought the car to the dealer today as it was doing the dreaded vibration again and the technician witnessed it for himself. He is ordering new engine mounts to rule out that none of them are collapsed. I told him it can't be that since this is something that comes and goes and has to be mechanical. He said he had to rule out everything. So he's going to call me on Monday and let me know when he will have the parts and when to drop the car off. I asked when BMWNA would step in and he said the BMW rep that was out last week (rep experienced the vibration as well) was basically them stepping in. The rep wanted him to try and troubleshoot it before escalating it any further. I asked when he thought it would become a PUMA case and he couldn't answer me. |

What I can share out my experience as below: -
I have misfired 3 times before, first 2 times, I can cancel the DME light after off and on the engine again, and I have changed a new coil when misfire was happened after 2nd time. On 3rd time, I running as normal speed (around 50km/hr) on city and suddenly full-engine light is occcured, my car shaking even worse than the previous 2 times before, I can't cancel it by off and on the engine this time. Brought back to garage and ask them to replace the coil again, problem fix, but I have experience different problem as below: - During idle or when u release the brake, my car either the rpm dropping rapidly to almost the engine's fire ceased that has caused the gear mode shifted from D to N, or fire ceased. Brought back to dealer, the can't found any problem but just told me the burning figure from 2 cylinders are not in ideally, then, the dealer has changed the solenoid for 2 cylinders together turn up the idle's rpm with 100 more. I got no problem afterward except the the rpm will drop some same as happened on these 2 months. Since I thought idle's rpm adjusted with 100 higher is quite high for my car and then I brought back again to dealer and asking for adjusting 50 rpm lower, however, unstable on rpm's problem back again. Some bros in here told me that maybe the injector's problem but I have asked not only the garage and the dealer, they told me if it is the injector problem, you can't even drive your car as the engine will stop, and my garage said that maybe it is because the piggyback, anyway, I think this is a puzzle for me. |

They changed my engine mounts and as you guessed it that made no difference. Now they are looking at the oil cooling system thinking it could be the cause. I'm pessimistic because the car vibrates way too much for something as small as that to be the culprit. It's all trial and error at this point. I'm surprised it's not a PUMA case yet. |

The engine RPMs are steady. It's something else but I doubt it's the AC since it's not on. Whatever the cause is, it vibrates the entire engine bay as well as cabin.

Bummer. When I have the ac button on, I get a slight oscillation that comes in and out. When I turn off ac, vibration geoes away. I also have 112k miles so everything rattles a bit |

It could be an imbalanced driveshaft or crank. Its puzzling that it is not there consistently tho.

wwwhhhaaaatt it took them 3 weeks to change your engine mounts only to find it's not the cause. This is indeed puzzling. Since RPM is steady we can rule out engine, ignition and fuel supply systems.
I don't think it's the cooling system. The oil and water pumps can't vibrate a car. I'm starting to think it's the DCT. |

Yup, sporting the same 328xi loaner with hail damage. I still don't understand why they haven't made this a PUMA case yet. |

I called the dealer yesterday around this time and they had removed my front bumper and from what I could understand removed a part of the oil cooling system then put it back on with rubber grommets to isolate any vibrations from it. WTF, how is that a fix? Anyway I asked if they would eventually replace the oil cooling pump and they said they didn't need to.
I still don't think it's the cause but they seem desperate at this point. Got a call today to come by and test it out but I didn't have time so I'm going in tomorrow. Best part is they want me to test it while my front bumper is off as they don't want to put it back on just yet. |
