The only thing I can think of is the European Delivery being stopped in September due to BMW opening a new facility and reworking the ED program somehow.

I ordered my 335i the end of March on an allocation slot with my dealer. It just arrived in the states as of yesterday. I emailed my dealer to see if he knew any estimated arrival time and he said it should be at the dealership the middle of this month. He also told me right after I ordered mine the "bottom fell out" on availability. My dealer can no longer get them.

"Produced not shipped"? Is that from the 800# or the OC?

I would not call this guy arbitrarily BS. The man is from Switzerland and could have valid information. Why be surprised? There are numerous issue with the build. 1st year autos are just that.....1st year autos. What else is new? 1st year productions autos have ALWAYS had to work the bugs out. Hell....BMW was still improving the E46 platform up to the final production.

Why would they build them and not ship them? Doesn't make any sense.

I received an email saying

Thank you for your recent Performance Center Delivery reservation for *** ***, production number 36178**. We would like to offer May 31, 2007 as a delivery date to the customer, with arrival in South Carolina the evening prior. Please contact me to advise if they would like to accept this date.

If your customer is a resident of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia there is a South Carolina first use tax that applies to them. This is a use tax of $300 upon the first use of a new vehicle in South Carolina. This first time use tax will not be collected by your retail center or the BMW Performance Center. Should the State decide to collect the tax from out of state consumers, it would be billed by the State of South Carolina and payable directly to the same. To our knowledge the State has never collected this tax. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Because of production schedules, weather, and other unforeseeable circumstances, we won’t be able to confirm your customer’s delivery date until two weeks prior to their arrival. Please advise your customer that travel arrangements should not be made until this time.

A tour of the BMW Manufacturing facility is part of the delivery program. However, BMW Manufacturing occasionally closes to visitors and tours when sensitive operations are taking place. Should this occur on the day of your delivery, you will still have the opportunity to visit the BMW Zentrum museum and experience a virtual tour of the BMW plant. Once public tours resume, you are welcome to contact us to arrange a factory tour.

Please be advised that some required forms and processes have been changed. Therefore, please use only the forms sent to you and discard any other pre-printed forms you may have.

Also, any BMW accessories that the customer would like to have installed here at the Performance Center prior to delivery must be ordered by the client advisor at least two weeks before their scheduled delivery date. Payment must be made by the BMW Center prior to delivery. An accessory request form will be faxed to you once the customer has accepted a delivery date.

Thank you,
Danielle

Congrats. Let us know how it goes. You have nothing to worry about -- just confirm the date. Best thing you can do is search this forum about the South Carolina performance center to better understand what to expect.

Also, you should probably stop posting in this ridiculus thread...

nonsense

car salesman trying to push another vehicle on the lot?

BMW would not publicly state they have issues, they have always worked through them. New facility or not, most huge companies like that would not allow downtime.

It's amazing how someone can post a topic like this without any relevant supporting documentation other than "I read on another forum" and everyone just gobbles it up like it came from Dr. Norbie himself.

Everyone just take a chill pill and if there's any truth to this rumor, I'm sure the most knowledgeable and trustworthy sources of information on this forum will sort it out.

BTW, I just read on another forum that they think BMW will be flooding the marketplace with the new 1 series to combat Audi in the entry level market. The news is that anyone placing their order for a new 5 series or higher, will be getting a new 1 series of their choice absolutely free.
