No more E92/E93s for ED until mid November?

More and more dealer CAs, Irv included, are confirming this chunk of bad news, directly quoting the head person at BMW's USA ED office in New Jersey.
To wit: no E92s or E93s, regardless of engine choice, will be available for ED until mid-November at best. I don't see any way a USA dealer is going to deal on such a high-demand car out of their allocation for anything better than $500 to $1,000 off USA MSRP. And for me, the whole ED experience is a primary reason for doing this deal. And since I'm not too high on driving my new car down the Autobahn with snowflakes drifting by, I'm going to be stuck for a year. Luckily, I've got a fun daily driver currently, as well as a restoration project to keep me focused over the coming months. Who knows what will happen by next Spring? Hmm..I wonder if Audi ever re-started their ED program? The A5 sure looks nice... |

I just got an ED confirmation. I think my dealer used up an allocation slot for me.. i guess I am very lucky. I had given up on the idea.
I had requested August 30th pick up

Anyone have any thoughts on those of us who've lost out on our ED deals could complain to in order to at least not have to eat the '08 proce increase? It'll probablyl beb rejected, but if you don't ask....

Let me try that question again in more readable fashion: who can we (I) complain to in order to at least avoid having to pay the '08 price increase? Any suggestions?

You can write a letter to Tom Purves, head of BMWNA and suggest they increase the monthly allocations to keep up with demands on these amazing driving machines that BMW has developed. You might also suggest to have more people working on getting the Welt opened earlier,so October can become a full delivery month and to keep the old delivery center open until the Welt can become fully operational. It's really not BMW's fault that the demand is greater than the availability, that's every manufacturer's dream.

Thanks for the suggestions, Irv - realistic and otherwise. The thing I fault BMW management for is not alerting the dealer network that availability was tight and getting tighter well before they suddenly slammed the door on done deals.
As has been said by CAs here and elsewhere, they were apparently "wanting" to tell dealers back in March that there were not enough cars to fill the orders then. If that was the case, why not warn the dealers then, so that customers could make a more informed choice? That's all I'm griping about. I've got a boatload of stuff for August onward structured around a car deal and a European trip that now ain't gonna happen until next Spring. I get that it's my choice not to go get the car in November, December, January, etc. I also get that somebody has to be next in line when someone sings out, "that's it... all gone". And it happened to be me this time. I'll live. But I run a business that's extremely deadline-oriented. And I tell my sales folks all the time to warn their clients that the production door is closing for certain completion dates, expressly because I don't want someone to get all set to spend a big chunk of change with a company where my name's on the wall, and they're being told, "can do, no problem, plenty of time", and then to suddenly be told, "sorry, no can do". |

We design and build custom trade show exhibits for clients in shows like E3 and SEMA. Nothing comes off the shelf - every project begins as a blank sheet of paper. So when the show opens, people are going to come through the door whether our clients' exhibit is there and finished or not.
It doesn't matter how late the client says "yes" or what happens with material shortages or sick employees or anything else. Once we tell our client we're going to build what we have in the contract, we can't be so much as a single day late. Guess that's why I don't understand when a "yes" really doesn't mean yes. |

Confirmed! Sweeeet!
Well, just when I thought my ED deal would be hosed for 2007, my CA just confirmed today with BMWNA and BMWAG that my ED delivery date is CONFIRMED and I have my production number in hand! Sweeeeeet!
And, its the first week in September! He even said that there was an opening for the last week of August; but Labor Day will do. (I ordered last Wednesday.) I can't confirm that my ED came out of normal dealer allocation, but I got a good deal at ED Invoice + profit. Given how hot the car is, I'm sure they wouldn't sacrifice a dealer spot for ED? So long story short, there is hope out there!! Now on to travel arrangements........

If you can wait till the 3rd or 4th week in October, you can get an '08 and possibly pick up on the 24th ,a day after the grand opening of the Welt, but you need to submit your pre reservation request asap.

Irv, do you think there are any more ED spots in late September or early October. I'm mainly afraid of going to Europe too close to winter, and I refuse to drive in snow.....I've never seen snow but once....Florida boy! But if it doesn't snow in Germany in late October, then I'm highly considering it. I'd love to drive from Munich to Amsterdam!

Also the ED Delivery Center will be closed for about 2-weeks in preparation for the move to the new Welt.
