While I don't have either I am researching the topic. I found this:
The Valentine One is the best radar/laser detector on the market today. http://guysoflidar.com/shootout05/radartesting.html http://guysoflidar.com/shootout05/pop.html http://guysoflidar.com/shootout05/spectre.html http://motortrend.com/features/consu...r_buyersguide/ "This year, the measurement of the radar and laser detection abilities of each of the over $200 units gives the Valentine One ($400) a small edge over the competing BEL Vector 995 ($260) and Escort Passport 8500 X50 ($300 with red display or $340 with a blue display) units." V1 is the best in laser detection: http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...213&highlight= V1 has the best rear radar detection because it is the only detector with 2 antennas to locate radar: http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...214&highlight= V1 is the least detectable detector by RDD's or Radar Detector Detectors in states where radar detectors are illegal. The Spectre III is the most used RDD in the world and it can only pick up the Valentine One if it is 166 feet or closer which is better than the X50 which can be detected 954 feet away. http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...383&highlight= The Valentine One which accounts for only .6% of radar detector sales wins every poll when it comes to being the favorite detector. The X50 doesn't even get an approval rating as high as George Bush's worst rating. http://www.radardetector.net/The-Ult.......-5523t.php Which of the "Big 3" is really the best overall - in your opinion? V-1 64% [ 45 ] RX-65 12% [ 9 ] X50 20% [ 14 ] Other (state which and why) 2% [ 2 ] Total Votes : 70 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...ghlight=#42353 Radar Roy from Radarbusters.com said this about the Valentine One, "Just spoke with Carl Fors from SML, his website will be going online tonight with the 2005 results. He has declared the V895, 8500 and the Valentine One as the top performers. Motortrend, who was also at the test, will be declaring the Valentine One as the top detector based upon its detection of laser. http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...=4696&start=90 Radar Roy said, "There were results that they (Guys of Lidar) got during the test that I was not exactly pleased with, such as the discovery of the Blinder not having Stealth Mode installed and the Valentine beating out the Escort and Bel in the range tests. Even though I don’t sell the Valentine, it does have slightly better range than both the RX65 and the 8500 and I also show this same fact on my site. Would love it to be the other way around." EDIT: LOL, this is actually written by RadarIsKing http://www.clublexus.com/forums/show...highlight=8500

just called the 800 #, and they currently have 8 people on the list for returned V1s. the rep said they've never shipped out any new ones to the people who waited for the return ones. shipping is approximately $16 for 2nd day delivery.

looks like they charged my account 4 days after ordering. I hope I get a "like-new" one. I wish they had ground, but they could not do ground to CA. weird.

just ordered mine for $375 all inclusive, w/o the concealment display of course. hopefully i'll get a like-new one as well. oh wait, if the customer used it and returned it, they send those products out as well? anybody know? if receiving a used product, then i might as well spend that extra $40 and get a brand new unit.

With the warranty, I don't think that would be a problem. It will look new I assume. If it was mared up, I assume they'll just change the case out. In anycase, as long as the unit has a like-new warranty, it should be ok. I think that if they have returned units, we get 'em or if there are pieces they can put together to make one work, we'll get 'em. We're just lining up for their scraps if you know what I mean. And sometimes we may even get new ones but I'm sure they won't admit to that if it was indeed true. Maybe we won't get a new one - who knows! With my luck, I don't expect much except a working unit and if I do get one that looks brand new, I'll be a happy camper. I got the concealed display. It's only an extra $35.

Gary,
when did you place an order for refurb unit? i have been on the waitlist since 11/21...i am losing patience ...thinking of buying it new. Any idea of how long they typically take to send a refurb unit? Also debating about getting a 8500 for $300 at local best buy...is V1 that much better and worth the extra 100? Thanks Vinod

they are not refurbish units. they're just return units from customers. some could be slightly used and some could be brand new.

I heard V1 is that much better. I will compare with the old I got at Costco (laugh) a few years back. I have one of those big whistlers too, but the power cord is broken so I can't use it. By the way, I opened the package and as everyone said, it looks brand new. In fact, the box seems like it's never been opened and recently packed. When I opened it, I had to pull back on the cardboard "lid" which means the box is definately new. The slits on the edge of the boxes to hold the flap down wasn't even bent. I can definately say the box that came with the valentine and the concealed display is new. The foam holding it looks new. The accessories look new. The radar and the conceal display look new. Yes, I know the difference between looking new and being new. Valentine sure knows how to make customers feel good about their purchases. Even though I got what I think is a refurb unit, it's "new" in my eyes. It actually looks news - i don't see any wear marks. I do recommend ordering one if you guys can wait. And vinod, be patient!! I think I got mine earlier than most because I ordered both the radar and concealed display. Gary Last edited by garyhgaryh; 12-01-2007 at 02:16 AM.. |

I knowingly bought a refurbished V1. I knew I would, at worst case, get one that might be marred. I was guarenteed a working one with a warranty. This is what I go. Now, whether or not mine is really refurbished, I consider this new. Look at the slits in the box that hold the flaps down, it's not even bent.
So what do you guys think? Oh, I got my ed package. I had to include that in to show off! Gary |
