Good news to all with problems with homelink!

I took my car to two different dealers concerning this matter. The 1st dealer blew me off saying there would be no reason a new car would have a problem. Awesome. A bunch of crap and seriously put some doubt in my mind about the maintenance capability of the renowned BMW service centers.

The second dealer showed more interest in my complaint. I have a new construction home with a chamberlain rolling code remote. They tried to program my car's homelink with their service garage door. I loved watching it as the service manager called over the homelink expert, who called over the newly trained tech, who called his kid cousin on his cell phone. None of these professionals could get the job done. Their answer, a new rearview mirror! Yeah, so I am not insane and my mirror homelink buttons really were broke. I am going to pick up the car today.

So, long story short, if your homelink does not work, take it in and get it replaced. Even if you have a new car. You didnt pay all that cash to have a feature not work!

I first took the car to casey BMW in newport news. A guy who could have passed as santa clause's brother told me I didnt know how to program the thing and I was out to lunch.

I then took the car to checkered flag. It only took NINE DAYS, but they finally got me a new mirror. And I also picked up a serious scratch on one of my rims, a gouge above my door handle, and an entire hood full or water marks. What a blessing for me!

I was so pissed after I left that place. It was comical, because my service manager, seeing I was none too happy, told me that BMW would be calling me about that particular visit. All I said to him was 9 days, and 2 serious scratches.

LESSON LEARNED: if you really want your car washed properly, do it yourself. They had some local lackeys back there with the same rags they used to clean last winter's dirty trucks washing my brand new car. I saw it with my own eyes and wanted to cry.

But my homelink system works like a charm. I have my garage door linked, a garage remote light, and the remote light in my kitchen.

I will attempt to polish out the scratch on the door. The rim scratch is there for life, and the water spots hopefully will come out.

Yeah, i don't like the service at casey however, i hate the car wash at checkered flag. I guess nobody is perfect.

My car has been in the shop already at checkered flag and told them specifically not to wash my car.

I highly suggest washing your own car. That way you know your car better and it's trouble spots.

Is your car silver? I saw a silver e92 on colley today.

HERE IS THE IMPORTANT TRICK

During step 2 of the process, try holding your remote between the inside of the windshield and the rear view mirror. It should link up in a few seconds.

I've gone through your pain before, and that was the only way it worked. I've done 3 of them now, and this works every time.

Hope that helps!

Yup. This does the trick. For some reason, when I held the manufacturer's remote in front of the rear view mirror (but within 4in and 12in away), it would not recognize. If I pointed it from behind the rear-view mirror (inside the car but inbetween the front windshield and the rear-view mirror), it worked like a charm!

I have two garage door openers (Chamberlain Belt Drives). The first door took me about 15 minutes to figure out that it had to be from behind the rear-view mirror. Once I figured that out, it took less than 2 minutes to program the other garage door opener!

Yes, finally the magic trick I was looking for. Worked perfectly. I have tried everything including chants, incense, and ancient spells. This technique worked!

HAHAHAHA....

After a few days of wondering and fustration, still havn't figured out how to set up the homelink. Kept reading the user manual and still miserable.

After a little at E90POST.com and absorbing the whole set up thing in layman terms. I just got it set up in 30 seconds!

Stupid me!

Thanks so much for the tip! Thanks too you, I was eventually able to program my wife's Porsche, something the dealer has been unable to do!

Then i held my original garage opener close to the homelink buttons and kept the button i want programmed pressed. You will have to keep it pressed for a good 30 - 60 secs till it starts blinking, once it's starts blinking, wait till it blinks faster. When it blinks faster that means it picked up the garage opener.

Now, if you have one of the newer garage openers, you have a rolling code opener. You will now have to go to the back of your actual garage motor (the one in the garage) and press the "learn" button at the back of it. You now have a 60 secs. window white the led flashes.

Go back to the car and keep the button (the one previously programed)

pressed it learns the rolling code. The light in yoru garage opener will blink to confirm new settings.

Give this a shot and let me know if it works. Where in VA are you?

I too was able to get mine working because of this suggestion, thanks!!!!!

I spent 3 goddamn hours trying to get this thing to accept my remote. I finally gave up and got on here and saw that a lot of people recommend putting the remote really close to the mirror. I tried that and it finally worked! Just wanted to say thank you!!
