And until they develop an instant "high-a-lyzer" you won't be able to enforce the laws preventing driving that would come about because of legalization.

I dunno, alcohol is legal and so whenever my mom goes out she has a bottle and I feel like I'm hanging out with a 10 yr old. If marijuana was legal people would think that is just as acceptable and honestly I don't want to be around my mom when she is drunk let alone stoned.

first of all ridiculus is spelled wrong...

and 2nd... if they legalize it... it'll be way more expensive than how much you are paying for it now.

Thank you! I have always associated getting stoned with something you do in school. After that for the most part you grow out of it. It's pretty lame to see some adults get excited about 420 and talk about getting stoned last night.

When people get high, they get less irritating and more relaxed than when they're drunk. Its probably easier on your body than drinking with more useful effects.

If the government would tax it and not bother with spending all the time and money enforcing it it would benefit everybody, IMO.

My friend has a theory that government can destroy illegal drug distribution by offering free drugs to already established junkies. This probaly will work best with serious drugs like heroine. Simply put, there will be no market for illegal drugs as they will be available for free (after a person passes a medical exam establishing that he/she is a drug abuser; so non-abusers will get no freebies). Drug dealers will be able to sell only to first time users, and once they are hooked up, they will not come back to the dealers for more (they'll get the drugs free from the government) and the dealers will loose a huge % of its main customers. Looks pretty logical to me.

there is really no good reason for it to still be illegal, not one. It's less harmful than alcohol by a fair bit and (MOST) people are far bigger assholes while drunk than stoned anyway.

The problem is the government doesn't want to loose the income provided by the bullshit war on drugs. It's a crock of shit. So much misinformation out there surrounding almost all the drugs out there... Legalization would cut down on so much bullshit crime...

This forum is made up of an overwhelming majority of people younger than baby boomers. In this poll you are tied at 50% for and 50% against legalisation. If you can't get a sizable majority here, I doubt that you could get a simple majority from the general public, even after the boomers are gone.

The history

In 1976, the Netherlands decriminalised possession of soft drugs such as cannabis. To cater for demand, outlets quickly cropped up in around the country, specifically in the capital, Amsterdam. These establishments are known as 'coffee shops', but most patrons don't hang out there for a caffeine fix. It's dope that floats their boat.

So am I free to get stoned?

Technically, the sale of cannabis remains an offence in Holland, and dealing in the streets remains illegal. Even so, possession of less than 30 grams for personal use carries only a minor punishment, and coffee shops are restricted to flogging no more than five grams per person. The catch is you have to be 18 or over. Smoking in public is tolerated, too, but many Brit tokers report that such a laid back attitude takes some getting used to. As a result, they prefer to remain free from all risk of coming into conflict with the law by only smoking in the coffee shop.
US laws should basically mirror those of anstradam...Im all for it getting legalized but i dont see it happening in our life time, or unitl some of you guys are in congress.
