FHP speeding ticket, Best course of action?

Driving my friend to the airport (MCO) from Cocoa Beach area so he can visit his family for thanksgiving. On my way back I am following the flow of traffic, doing exactly the same speed as the ecobox in front of me (middle lane). Apparently that was 86 in a 70. I got pulled over by a FHP Trooper. I'm not saying I don't deserve the ticket because I was speeding, but I have a feeling driving a BMW with a PA plate in Florida didn't help my case.

Either way apparently 16 over puts me in the second bracket for speeding, tacking 4 points and a pretty hefty fine to the ticket. It seems I have 3 options: Pay, Pay reduced fine + traffic school, or fight it. I've never had to deal with a situation like this, So I'd like to know what my best course of action would be here. I'm looking for an outcome where I get no points and spend the least amount of money possible on this.

Details for the ticket:
07:26 11/23/2001
86 in 70
Radar: Stalker Dual Radar SN: DC-23011

Thanks guys!

i'd to the traffic school.. I had a ticket for 30 in a school zone.. Those places that guarantee no points couldn't guarantee it in a school zone case... So i did driving school, 0 points and reduced fine.

People in BMWs getting pulled over for speeding in Florida seems to be extremely common lately, and more than usual. I even had a friend who got a $120 ticket for going 36 in a 30 the other day in South Tampa. Best bet is not to speed at all for the rest of December while the police do their end of the year round up. Going with the flow of traffic doesnt cut it anymore. Josh, good luck on your ticket. Keep us updated, because I'm sure there will be more in the same boat soon.

i assume that's going to end up in traffic school and a reduced fine? The ticket is for $260 so I was wondering if it's even worth a lawyer.

As long as you didn't attend traffic school within the last 12 months, you can just pay the ticket and make them aware that you will attend traffic school. This way you wont get points, and insurance wont get screwed with.

If you did attend traffic school within the last 12 months, in my case. Then you can hire a traffic lawyer and more than likely all you have to do is pay the lawyer his fee, and that will be the end of that citation.

With my case I paid the lawyer, he went to court and that was the end of it. So hoping not to rack up another ticket, especially around the holidays.

Well you pretty much already know what your options are, though I doubt your plate is the reason he pulled you over. I live in FL and PA during different seasons and have never been ticketed for that reason.

FHP and FSP gave me warnings, broward county gave me a verbal and all times I was speeding. It seems it's the little things that make the difference when you get pulled over whether or not you will get a ticket.

Good luck!

Forget traffic school and just hire this law firm.. http://www.trafficticketteam.com/

It may seem like a gimmick, but they've been top notch. Last speeding ticket I got (which was from one of the FHP guys who starred in the reality show "Speeders") they had completely thrown out. I literally just paid their fee (~$70 at the time) and the ticket went away.. no fine, no points, no court, no school (the best outcome). It's worth the shot. They always try for the best possible outcome and if it's not possible work their way down ensuring that you don't get points and pay the least amount.

Also, I just found this promise on the website of the law firm I recommended above..

FYI, Florida only let's you voluntarily go to traffic school five times in your life I believe. If you fight it and the judge makes you do traffic school as part of the settlement it won't count against your five times since it was court ordered. I personally would save my school options for a time I don't want to risk it with a judge (if you ever get pulled over going 20-29 over. 30 over is mandatory court appearance)

Find the officer and talk to him.
I know this doesn't sound like the best option, but it worked for me.

I dont know how you'd 'find the officer'

so i wont speak to that.

I'm also not sure how much ur plates had to do with it. I would suggest you hire one of these ticket clinics. Its likely your best bet to avoid the points, but my guess is you'll end up with the cost of the ticket and the attorney (no points) as a worst case scenario. Best case scenario you'll pay the attorney but no points or cost of ticket.

next. if you're in FL alot, invest in a radar/laser jammer and use waze even if you know where you're going.

Any updates on what happened? Valentine 1's are only like $350 used...mine has saved me more times than i can ever count. Arguably the best laser and radar detection next to the passport. You can ALWAYS count on FHP running at least Ka band. V1 picks that shit up up to a mile ahead!
