Stock tires will not work in any kind of solid snow coverage: the car won't be able to climb even a slightest incline. Snow chains on the rear wheels will make it driveable, as long as you are careful. Snow tires will make it drive much better.

Basically, nothing out of the ordinary.
Am I the only one that thinks that if you are putting chains on your tires then you should probably just stay home? I guess it is ok if you are a first responder or something. I always thought chains were for some S&M stuff not your car.

We've had a very light winter so far, but I put a set of 225 Blizzaks all around and they've been stellar in the light snow/ice we've had.

I've used 4 winter tires over 30 years. Dunlops were my favorites but not best in snow. This car/tire combo is not good. Going S4 as soon as I can.

Did you try altimax artic or blizzacks? They work for me.

just curious so im asking some of you guys who have had yours for a while
based on where you are, you should be totally fine as long as you're not on summer tires. Just remember its not FWD so its tail happy... take it to a lot on first snow fall and you'll learn quick.

You probably are, cause that's the most bizarre thing I ever heard.

When you live in an area that gets no snow coverage and only go to snowy areas for occasional short trips (like skiing trips to the mountains), you use temporary traction devices, like chains or cables. Simple.

225/45/17's all around. Nordvitch winters, I think that's what they're called. They work great and Alan at Simplytire.com in Toronto hooks it up.

Everyone keep in mind that no matter how great your tires are, you still have to slow down at some point. Don't drive too fast in inclement weather, use your noggin!

well going from an awd to a 335i, ill tell you that it sucks, it snowed like 2 inches and i barley tapped the gas and traction was kicking in and it was spinning. But like people say if you got good tires then ur good, i have all seasons.

My C6 Corvette got stock in half an inch of snow, it was one of the lamest things ive ever had happen in a car. I couldnt leave the stop light the car just went totally sideways. Everyone was staring like wtf is wrong with that turd.

My last 335i was slammed pretty low and had my 19" summer tires on, and with the traction control it went through about 5 inches of snow like a KING... The traction control works VERY well for RWD car. So those that said this car is horrible in snow, need to go drive a Corvette

most cars now days have the same traction control that BMW has. ...vett as well. vett also has lsd, so it should actually be better in snow then 335

I don't believe anyone mentioned this but I like to keep at least half a tank of gas during the winter. That yields between 50-100 lbs of extra weight in the back.

The vette probably has Pirelli Z-Zero's on it so you are toast no matter what you have for electronic assistance for traction, LSD

It all depends on the quality of the snow tires and driver...

I run Blizzak LM60 RFTs in a square setup (225s) on my stock 189s for winter in PA. My only problem, even in our blizzards last year, has been ground clearance.

As with all winter driving, common sense is still required.

Did you get stuck or did you plow through the snow?

The Vette has much wider tires in the rear, and also has MUCH less weight in the rear, trust me when i say the Vette is 10X worse in the snow then the BMW.

Being a swede and all i got metal stud tires, traction is no real issue on normal snow/ice. The only problem i've noticed so far is when the snow is too deep. I don't know how but i managed to build a snow cushion under my car driving home last winter and had to shovel myself out of it (imagine a pillow lying under the front of your car making your front tires not touch the ground). The major issue i'm having is with the frameless windows, the window often freezes stuck so you can't open/close the car properly as the windows can't retract those few millimetres when u open/close the car.

Also i wish i had steeringwheel heating when its -25°C out ._.
