Personally, i don't see why people don't just order a set of VRSF downpipes and run stage 2+

Because my 2009 is still under warranty. Taking off aftermarket downpipes is a PITA if I have to take it in for warranty work, i.e. wastegate/turbo issues.

If it was no longer under the original 4yr/50k factory warranty it would not be an issues.

You are wasting 4 precious years of your life with that warranty

This is 100% true. All you're doing is waiting for the engine to have even more miles on it before you start putting more stress on it. If you're going FBO do it while the car is still young and strong.

Gentlemen and Ian,

Thank for taking the time to post and provide feedback on aftermarket intercoolers and your experiences and knowledge of them.

Ian, thank you for taking the time to post a response. It is greatly appreciated and we all look forward to the release of the Stage 1+ map. Of course, releasing as much information as possible before that day is also greatly appreciated http://www.e90post.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif

In regards to why a Dinan intercooler, I would like to keep my warranty and god forbid if something were to go wrong, I would not like to be stuck with the short end of the stick. Why not just get downpipes? They are a bitch to take off and put back on over and over again every time i need to go in for service and lately i have been needing to go in quite a bit (tail light issues) and obviously, DP's will void my warranty.

Looking forward to the Stage 1+ tune!

Regards,
08-335

Sigh, If you take it to BMW they can still void your warranty with a DINAN product. Its the fact that DINAN will give you a DINAN warranty with they're products, that is what you are paying for.

Im not 100% sure how it works, but its not like Dinan and BMW have teamed up and they overlook all Dinan products at BMW (from what I know, if I'm wrong correct me and I will apologize)

If he takes his car to a BMW dealer that is NOT a Dinan dealer then yes then can, it doesnt mean they will, void his warranty. This all depends on the BMW dealer.

If he takes his car to a BMW and authorized Dinan dealer, it is treated as stock, like its not even there UNLESS a problem occures that is caused by the Dinan mod then Dinan will step in.

I only take my car to Braman BMW an Authorized Dinan Dealer and never Vista BMW. Also what helps at the delear is to have a good relationship with them. If you are an a$$ whole with them, or ever was, prepare to be shafted

Lame, well I will have to talk to my BMW dealership then and try to get something in writing so it is somewhat official and displays a clear understanding of the warranty and what will happen to it if a Dinan Intercooler is installed. I have seen other posts that say the same as what you are saying here, but it seems like there is always a contradicting post that shortly follows.

Like i said, I will have to talk with my BMW dealership to get a clear understanding of the situation.

Thanks for the post!

Here is the issue.

There is a plethora of people that go to dealers with many aftermarket mods no problem. There are others that go in with a simple cat back exhaust and get hell for it.

My dealer doesnt care about mods, in fact they encouraged me several times to get a "chip". So it really depends on your dealer and relationship with them.

Many people here mod their cars freely and if something serious happens to their cars they take the day or so to remove the mods before going in.

I do "pack" lightly on my own car so I can have this car bone stock in less then 2 hours.

I get a lot of phone calls about people telling me that there car is a daily driver and they are still in warranty; the truth is that is about 90% of us on here do also. I daily drive with methanol injection and to some that may sound crazy but its really not. My last car had a aftermarket supercharger and nitrous also daily driven (only car). In fact on a typical commute I probably didnt even use an ounce of meth or even touch boost, but when I wanted to its ready.

Long story short. Enjoy your car. Do whatever makes you happy but I'd sooner tell you to add the parts you want instead of waiting for warranty to run out. Afterall the last thing I would do with this car is keep it after warranty runs out....

In my experience, that is the most important thing.

There are some good BMW dealers in the chicago area. Find one that is a dinan authorized dealer and deal with them. That should alleviate any worries but as stated before, confirm with them before doing the mods.

I too am looking forward to the stage1+ tune. I don't want to mess with dp's or meth kits. Just a fmic and cai with a tune will make me happy enough.

I roll into my dealership fully modded. The day my warranty ran out was the most liberating day of my life. But then again I only go there to window shop or pick up the occasional part lol.

The dealer makes the biggest deal about having mods .They act like
The act like its going to fall apart .Its like they don't know people are going to mod them. They should just let us do all the bolt ons without going internal.Tjey act like there paying for the warranty work themselves .

Someone asked earlier in the thread why people don't just go get downpipes. Besides the warranty issue, now there are some of us waiting for the big single turbos to arrive that don't want to pay for downpipes that we won't use later.

I just had a HELIX FMIC installed and there was no cutting or removing the front bumper. Ive also heard nothing but good things about HELIX and their FMIC so it was a no brainer for me.
