I don't have my new ride yet, but thinking about such things already makes me cringe. Do (have) any of you ever whipped out a car cover somewhere it would normally seem unusual to do so? Say you had a few minutes extra to burn. I know that may sound silly, but it's just a thought I had to ask.

yeahh..i wished my family owned crappy cars so i could take that instead some nights..i parked my e92 in a spot where there were no other cars near me and when i came out from eating people had parked on both sides and in front of it when there were still plenty of spots around..im hoping that this paranoia of people doing shit to my car will subside..i just got the car wednesday so maybe thats why

This isnt an issue of POS car compared to nice car, because some of the wealthier people think the 335 is very low class and a POS.And to the other end of the spectrum,a poor person that has never been able to afford a car will take anything that is drivable and be happy with it.
It comes down to a lack of respect for another persons personal property and also common sense towards something that is not yours in the first place.Something that many in this world have never been taught or have lost the entire grasp of,through out their lives. Its a subject that usually has a bad story behind it when it rares its ugly self.In this case,a guy gets his car treated like a public park bench. Its enough to make a person want to punch anothers lights out in my opinion.Im sick of the A-holes in this world making hard to enjoy the stuff I worked hard to get. |

+100000000000000!!! I have been very lucky. The past 2 weekends Ive been able to park away from people (empty lots), or this weekend, I was able to park next to two E60 M5s, on two separate occaisions. I'm sure the owner of that car was slightly relieved to find another BMW owner watching at least one side of his car |

I don't know how you stayed inside with somebody leaning/sitting on your car. You have a lot of self control. |

My duct tape experiment
I had an AW e36 M3 sedan with a CB radio, and when I drove fast but like a gentlemen on a Midwest interstate the truckers would be railing on " the A$$hole" in the BMW. On one trip I put some white duct tape over the rear Roundel and M3 emblems and deliberately drove like an idiot, 90 to 120, passing on the right, tailgating, almost nudging slower cars out of the way and not once did a trucker say a word. I guess people think we drive BMW's because of the label, and they don't understand that they are just wonderful to drive.

My WRX was a race car it attracted a lot of attention but luckly no1 has done that shit. Perhaps because I have an alarm with a pager, or that fact I leave my gear in that car. Which might repel asshats lol.
When I get my 335 an alarm has to go on... But I was with my g/f coming out of a restraunt and someone was leaning on her car and she was calm which is odd, 4'10 chinese girls tend to have bad anger. She unlocked her car and the guy moved, didnt say sorry or anything. Shit if it was any of my cars i'd have a talk with the guy and politely say go lean on your own car asshole. |

Thank god for the lazy American lifestyle. I park in the back of parking lots and get a nice little extra walk out of it knowing my car is safer than usual. Usually only the nice cars are in the back anyway. That way you know if you park properly next to guys in the back with nice cars you will get the same respect you gave them in not dinging their cars.

+1000 on all the comments. I hate to see people with the audacity to do whatever they want to my car. It's my HARD earned money and I get to decide how to use (or abuse) the car. Is it bad parenting? Lack of morals and decency? WTF?
I look for other nice cars and out of the way spaces. I only have 1 car, so I have to take it to the club....unless I get a friend to drive I always check the exterior status of the car when I park it and make a mental note of the color of the cars parked next to me. I hate to admit it, but if someone left a big ding'er in my door, I might just be compelled to modify theirs free of charge. I did get my first big rock chip on my hood this weekend, so I guess she's finally had her cherry popped. Oh well eh?

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth........that is how I see it.........some people are simply bastards, and they deserve to be treated that way.................if somebody did that to me, I would have done the same sh##t to their car..............I work hard to get where I am at and I take real care of my stuff and if people do not respect that, they will pay one way or another..............and those people are the reason for me to shell out $495 for lifetime ding protection from dealer...................... |

yeah bunch of **** out there that dont respect other peoples property. The idiots probably wanted to be associated with your car and pretend for the other onlookers that it was their car.
But at the end of the day,ive noticed that all this paranoia and worry takes the fun out of owing a car or perhaps developing so much attachment for a car period- exclusive of whatever make it is. I just try to not worry about it and if it happens before my eyes that person better fix whatever they messed up or be ready for an eventful time. At the end of the day enjoy the car for what it is and try to minimize adverse events in the process of enjoying it. my .02 cents. |

If you park front and center regardless of what you drive it will be used as a pole or bench. It has nothing to do with your car and everything to do with location. Park way out in a corner and you attract more attention, take 2 spots and you will be keyed, park at a bus stop and you will be a bench. Park out in the parking lot and don't attract attention and you will be fine.

nice job with the payback though! there you go! payback is a b*tch. you shouldnt feel bad about it at all. if someone f*cked up your property, they should expect the same sh*t back. ive had my car for 7 months now and up until this point, i still havent gotten any dents dings or any of that. *knocks on wood* all due to a combination of all the suggestions previously mentioned....parking far, parking next to those spaces that have the crossed lined on the ground so i can park into the crossed lines and be farther from the other car, taking up two spaces, etc. i know if i ever caught someone ruining my car, i think i would seriously have a freakin heart attack and break some faces. i love my bmw. disrespect + my bmw = you get f*cked up. simple as that.
