The 177's are mid-bass.
http://www.google.com/search?q=alpin...w=1280&bih=715

Actually the speakers in the rear of my Tundra are Alpine SPX 17MB's not 177's, but I think they are the same speaker.

Dimensions

1.40" Height x 1.40" Width x 0.60" Depth - Mounting - Tweeter, 5.20" Height x 5.20" Width x 2.80" Depth - Mounting - Woofer

This subwoofer hides in the trunk pretty well, but what do you guys think of it?

speaker list

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673

I don't see the alpines on here maybe they should be listed if they
fit.

The door speakers have to be 4 inch and under 50mm about 2 inches
in depth.

107R's are a cut out diameter of 4" (101 mm), and a depth of 2" (51.5 mm).

17 MB's and 177R's are a cut out size of 5.2" (132 mm), and a depth of 2.8" (70.8 mm).

The 17 MB's are identical is size to the 177R's, but have different specs. I could use either type under the seat if they fit.

@Ctuna, the 107 are listed below Kaigoss's list in the speaker thread. They have been tested.

@OP

The BSW sub won't work in a 335d...ever look under your trunk floor? (Hint: thats where your urea goes)

I would recommend a real 8" under the seat, even the OEM ones are ok when bandbassed. You could try and get JTSherri to make you a spacer to fit the 6.5. I would still lean toward an 8" though.

Your amp should be fine to start with

I don't even have the car yet, I am taking delivery next week. 2011 335d Crimson Red\Beige with no options.

I'll know today if I can use any of the Alpine stuff. I've got a guy coming to test drive the truck this afternoon. If he buys it the whole Alpine discussion is moot.

I would like to know how much I can salvage out of the truck for negotiation purposes. Also, I've have to gut the truck soon, if I'm going to do it. I just got the call this morning that my car will be here Tuesday or Wednesday.

I'm trying to get this worked out before I take delivery, so I can get any accessories I need at dealer cost.

Plus, should I spend the money to reinstall stock stereo in the Tundra, and salvage my Alpine stuff for the cost of $300.

Up to you but afaik the spx series are pretty nice, no?

I would use an 8" under the seat beacuse you can. You already have an 8" there that will be halfway decent for midbass

The amp is good to go

Ok, well, if the guy buys the truck today.

I'll buy an entirely new setup, and if he doesn't I'll make an appointment to have the stereo equipment removed.

I'll check back with you later this afternoon to let you know how the sale went.

Thanks guys.

Truck Sold, pending financing.

So, we can put to rest any BMW\Alpine questions, and I got a little extra cash to work with now.

Good question.

I would love to have a 3-way speaker system with a nice sub woofer. Budget under $2,000, but more if I can do it in stages.

I'm finding it hard to even type that large a number for audio.

I want a high quality system, but I don't want to buy a fashion statement in hardware.

I don't want to fill my trunk up with sub-woofers.

I'd like the system to be unnoticeable, until I turn it on.

I just want my sound system to ooze of quality sound.

I guess I am looking for the sweet spot between quality and price.

Yep its not the land of Pioneer and Sony

But if you do things right you should layout an upgrade path that you don't
have to throw away pieces but just add better ones for the most part.
Before this system the most I had ever spent on a system was 800 bucks
complete and installed. And I was pretty satisfied with the HK on the e46 coupe. But the one I have now is the best system I have ever had. I did have to DIY it and still spent 1500 bucks on parts.

I spent a fortune putting the stereo in my Tundra, mostly because I had a disreputable dealer playing on my ignorance about car stereo.
They robbed me, left me broke, and I had to have another guy straighten everything out. It was a nightmare.

That happened to me when I was a kid, and I didn't buy an aftermarket stereo for ten years, after the that first experience.

It's nice to have a place to come to where you can get advice before you buy, like this forum.

What do you have in your car now?

What about the 3-way flatline woofer system by Jenhert, and the JBL MS-8 DSP amp?

It sounds like the flatline woofer system was designed to replace the "Top HIFI" option 677 speakers, and the JBL MS-8 DSP could upgrade the "HIFI" option 667 amp, in my 335d, to an option 677 or Logic 7 amp.

Is this a better option than what you suggest?

These subjective answers without hearing the devices

The Jehnert Door speakers don't go as low as the Morels or some of the other options according to experts . Its true they are direct fit for the car and there under seats can't be beat for accuracy and tight accurate bass.
The Jehnerts doors speakers are a direct fit in the coupe which is one of there big advantages also they don't require and adaptor ring I believe.
Its true these were designed for Euro cars but I don't think you can say
it was specificly for Hi FI . Go look at there website at Jehnert.com

The ms8 is suppose to be and awsome processor but its amp outputs are neither here nor there at 18 watts rms at 4ohms or I think its 30 at 2 ohms.
The amp outputs are basically head unit power.
A lot of people love them though. Most will add an amp on the most important channels . They seem to be used mostly for Logic 7 systems since there are a lot of speaker channels to replace.

Maybe they are not specific for HIFI. I just got that impression, from reading the blog, that people were replacing there stock Logic 7 amps for this JBL MS-8 DSP amp, and replacing the stock speakers with the Jehnert 3-way setup.

It seemed like an easy install with positive results, and I wondered if you had considered it, and if you still think your first suggestion is the best one.

Taibanl uses the ms-8

Maybe he could chime in on it .
it can really adjust the eq but you still need a significant amp on the main channels. It allows you to have suround sound.
I have only seen one example of a complete Jehnert three way set being used
in a Musicar System by Vp Electricity so far in a coupe he says the main reason he did that is because of the fit. I also thought they would be a matched set an cover the entire frequency range flatly but was told the
Morels were a better sounding choice.

Ok, I'm gett'n a little crazy here, but....

How about this:

Jenhert replacement door panels

Focal K2 Power 165KRX3 Car speaker for Jenhert door panels front.

Audison Voce AV 5.1k amplifier

Alpine PXA-H800

2 x Focal Utiopia Be 13 WS on the back deck.

I thought you were on a budjet!
those door panels are awsome . You would need
plenty of power to properly power them though.
