I'll share a razor blade secret with you guys which is going to sound completely unbelievable... In fact, I didn't believe it either until my last razor blade lasted me over two years...

To prevent a blade from getting dull, all you have to do is dry it thoroughly. The thing that "dulls" the blade is all the minerals and sh!t in the water that dry on the blade and creates some kind of microscopic build-up. Just dry the blade and it stays sharp.

$9 per month? (Over $100 per year??) I spend less than $1 per year!

Takes longer, doesn't shave as close, battery dead when you need it (if cordless), pulls the beard if the hair is longer (ie haven't shaved in a few days), one more thing to pack when I travel, etc......

Have you tried a safety razor or butterfly razor yet? It's harder to cut yourself with one and it trains you to keep the razor and your hand motions in check by second nature so that you can actually shave quickly with one and with the straight razor eventually. Much more forgiving to learn on before moving into a straight razor. If I'm in a hurry I usually still shave with my safety razor though for good measure.

Nope, good advice! Probably cheaper too, since I imagine quality straight razors are $$$$$.

While this is partly true a blade actually does become dull with use. The sharp edge is not a uniform piece of metal; at the microscopic level it looks like metal fingers and slivers converging into a sharp point. As the blade is used these slivers are bent backwards away from the others and make a duller edge. The reason that a blade will last longer if you dry it is actually because the act of drying bends those little slivers back into place. This is what the barber is doing when they run the razor along the leather strop

@scollins: They can basically get as expensive as you are willing to pay but the real cost in them is in starting out since you need a strop, hones, many people buy the first brush and soap with them as well, etc. Some straight razors don't even come sharpened so you need to send it off to have an edge honed which can be pricey. To top it all off if a person intends to convert his entire shaving system to straight razors he is best suited buying multiples (one for each day of the week commonly) since stropping the razor and getting it ready to use takes a few minutes and busy people can't do this every morning.

Wow, you know your razors! Clearly, I was misinformed and stand corrected. But I suppose my bottom line still stands for making a single blade last for years!

screw that when the moisturizer strip goes down that metal behind it starts to hurt you're skin. I gave up on razors and just use stubble trimmer since i usually keep one. Only use a razor when i need a clean shave but i hate doing it.

I never did either. I ordered when this thread was first opened.... WTF~!

Due to someone skimming my debit card in vegas and going on a cross country spree, the card I opened my account with has since been closed.. I'm glad, I ordered this over a month ago and no razors yet.. No more promotions from this guy.
