Ok guys, this is only after about 20 mins of driving from a warm start, not even driving that aggressive. Street driving, a lot of stop lights. It even peaked up to the 260ish mark.

and my car is bone stock, this just started happening the past couple of days.. I think I might take it into the dealer and see if something is wrong. Would hate to see what it would peak up too after I chip it

Mine (07 with oil cooler) has never gone past 250 pushing as hard as I can for long periods, etc. If I dont boost much, it never goes past 220-230. Normal driving stays around 230-240.

Thats where my oil temp is most of the time. I have the COBB AP as a tune. Its not even too hot here in Pa yet, been about 70. But my car is always running around the temp yours is at.

mine has a oil cooler but i am not sure if it is stock or not because i bought it used and it came with it, mine is a 07 but no sports package, anyway i heard that oil cooler doesnt work until you went into limp mode, it only helps to cool down the engine when it is too hot, is that true? i live in california, oil temp usually goes to 230 to 240 when i am driving normally with traffic, and around 220 on freeway

Should I be worrying if my oil temp is averaging 255 degrees fahrenheit?

I freaked out for a minute looking at that guage pic, as my needle at that temp is much further to the left.

then I saw the numbers were in different places...

The 2008 and later models have a rescaled oil temp gauge. This temp is normal for N54.

Another way to find out if you have an oil cooler, having 2 lines coming from where the oil cooler is suppose to be going to where the oil filter housing is? Thats what I was told...

255 is past the norm. I've never seen anything past 250, with the hardest of street driving.

***

To the other guy the thermostat partially opens sometime in the 230 range and fully opens by 245

***
The older models had a different scale on the temp gauge, normally we expect our gauges to be near the middle at full operating temp so BMW rescaled the oil temp gauge after so many questions complaints thinking there oil temps were too hot.

Then you are not driving it correctly! Pedal goes to the floor from light to light Jeff is right, 250 should be the highest you see unless you were running 19.5 PSI for an extended period of time....then mine would go up to 265-270. Recommend flushing your coolant with some new fluid and adding some Water Wetter.

Perhaps too conservative

Yes when you have an oil cooler you have oil lines from the oil filter housing. 2 of them, black.

Sweet thanks for confirmation. Also would you know of any company that makes a 180 degree thermostat for our cars?

So was that an 08+ becuase I have an 07 and mine doesn't look like that. Mine sits in the middle at around 240. Not way off to the right. I think my scale starts at like 160 or 180
