Edit, according to some sources the effective octane is about 95 for e85. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E85 This would yield like 93 octane in a 50/50 mix with 91 fuel. So meth is probably still needed on a FBO st 3 car at high boost. But I'm not sure, perhaps someone with deep insight in this area can chime in to. Last edited by R1000K3; 04-21-2012 at 02:59 AM.. |

Same uncorrected power as straight race gas for now. But it's also a good 20f warmer today. But since we are at the limit of the stock turbos, there is only so much airflow potential. The real advantage of running e85 is its knock and heatsoak resistance. The downside is that you will guzzle 30% more fuel. We'll see how this plays out in the next few weeks.

Another conclusion may be that stock turbos may work better since e85 burns at a lower Air to Fuel Ratio, i.e. it requires less boost but more fuel with e85. Is this a correct assumption? I guess I'm wrong here and the conclusion should be; 35% more fuel is needed for e85 for the same air supply as for gasoline at a given power level. But, e85 gives a power advantage by higher octane and cooling effect. Meth injection is still needed for higher power levels since it increases the amount of oxygen by cooling the intake air. Yep, through a single CM10 Nozzle.
I have dual nozzles installed, but the logs looks really good with just the CM10 activated. I'm planning to do some Vbox-runs on the next airfield event and see if there's any difference in performance by using dual nozzles (CM10 + CM7) vs a single CM10. |

I'll fill up the tank mostly with e85 next time and see how it effects the characteristics. I'm using a single CM10 as well. |

It seems the octane rating differs a lot during the cold and warm season http://www.statoil.se/file_archive/0...Etanol_E85.pdf

So for him to be running 100% e85, a new fueling map has to be in the works I'd assume. And if 30% more fueling is needed for e85, what about the maps where some of us are already at 34% of fueling already, how will the flow differential work? |

And as for 30% more fuel, yes that'll make the mpg look ugly but on the flip side the average price of e85 nationwide is $3.32 and 93 is $4.15. That's a difference of 25% in gas price, so you're losing 5% of lets say on 20mpg, that means you're losing 1mpg with moderate throttle input. With a 16 gallon tank, you're essentially losing 16 miles per tank when it comes to cost.

There is E85 right on the border, in Rye. Not terribly convenient, but could be fun for testing purposes.
