You DON'T want hop (avoid it like the plague), and I would recommend trying to move the traction window towards wheel spin instead of hop or bogging. Hop tends to break things. It's the narrow window between full on bogging (where grip>engine torque) and wheel spin (grip<engine torque). For fastest, safest, AWD launches you want to just be inside the wheel spin zone. |

The best way to deal with launches is to leave the OEM suspension in place. Lowering the car upsets suspension geometry and really hurts launches. If you're running coilovers, with IRS (independent rear suspension) you want to set them to full hard in the rear and full soft in the front to promote weight transfer. Soft rear suspension was great prior to IRS so you could get the car to squat. Squating at launch is very hard to pull off with IRS on the car so you can only work with what you have. LSD and good tires with softer sidewall will help.

11.3 on an XI? And your manual? I am at 12.0 at 115mph and 1.7 60ft. I would love to crack 11's next month. Only mod since my first track day is gonna be bmw PE.
What's your secret? NVM I see you have RB's on your car. I was on the mobile. Thought you were at 11.3 with stock turbos....haha Last edited by Welterweight; 03-16-2015 at 05:26 PM.. |

A lot of valuable information guys, thank you!
I know how bad wheel hop is and I'm trying to get it sorted out before I Break something lol. I used to visit the drag strip regularly and had a constant 1.6 60ft, but now it just hops so I keep my launch happy ass off the track. I'm lowered on HR Sports stock shocks and struts, a little over 90K on the setup now so i know they are getting weak and may not be keeping the tires planted. I don't know if my tire setup could be an issue, 8.5 front 9.5 rear and 235/35/19's all around. The rear is stretched, it looks pretty but it doesn't feel pretty when it's hopping all the way through second unless I let off. I'll even get some hop in 3rd from a 60roll if I spray but it hooks up pretty quick at that speed.

Actually I did notice it get crazy after going all 235/35's. I Used to have 235/35 front and 265/30 rear on the same wheels and only had hop under wayyyy hard acceleration.
I'm going to start with air pressure adjustments, I still have my other set of tires so I'll switch back to those and only after that chase suspension issues. I know bushings might be getting soft but they aren't torn or anything. A part of me thinks it might not be wheel hop at all though and maybe a transmission shudder. Thanks again guys.
