Does this thing block your sight of vision? When you get out of the car do you have to remove the thing every-time so no one breaks into your car?

I've seen them used for so many things that I decided to pull the trigger on it today. Aside from using it as a dashcam I plan on using to document the Hero Rush event I'm doing in June, some of my biking and my 21st birthday trip. I want to be able to at least have a video of it, since I know I wont remember it

Also have seen people use Iphone, but not sure how it was mounted to dash. Yes there's an app for that.

I'd rather have some permanent solution. I think, the driver side on the back of the mirrow would be a perfect spot for a dah cam - I'd hardwire the thing and keep it as a parking cam a well.

I've got a gopro setup that I've been using for the past 2 years. It takes awesome video and audio and the only real drawback is that the videos take up a lot of space (around 1 gig per 10mins).
I have it mounted to the right of my rear view mirror and it in no way obstructs my view. I have had it mounted but not on while being pulled over and cops have never even mentioned it. Here is the only picture I could find showing the mount. I was also involved in an accident a few weeks back and its nice to know I have the video as backup so the guy can't make anything up.

We had a massive group buy in Toronto and a lot of people got in on a BlackVue DR400G-HD and a shop offered to wire it and tuck everything in so its barely noticeable. I didn't really need it but for the price of the group buy and the convenience of it being installed I jumped on board. Now that I have it, it's really cool to watch the recordings on computer. Whether you catch someone or thing quite interesting, your friends driving, or reviewing a spirited drive on the back roads and of course hopefully never, some type of unfortunate accident where they try to blame you but your video evidence shows otherwise.

I picked up the BlackVue DR400G-HD and installed it last weekend. So far I like it. It is really small and hides behind the mirror nicely. The GPS feature is pretty awesome too. It overlays the vehicle speed on the video and also tracks it's position as well. It comes with a 16Gb SD card so it can hold a good amount of video before overwriting. I don't have it wired to a constant power source so it only records while driving. I may change that at some point but for now it works for me.

I recently visited Taiwan, and every single Taxi in Taipei has a dash cam.
Records video (sound too I think) for 8 hours loop, and comes with a small LCD screen so you can see real time on what's been recorded. Real cheap too, most are around $150 CDN. Most of the one I've seen looks like smaller version of a radar detector (with a screen attached), and does not look like the "BlackVue DR400G-HD" in previous post. Thought about getting one when I was there, just didn't know where to get one. I think it's a good investment, for crooked cops, accident, etc., I mean for $150 bucks it's a steal for what it can do! |

It would have been her fault. My gf and her friend got backed into at an intersection a couple months ago. 100% fault was placed on the guy that backed into them.

Need to get one as well. 2 months ago some asshole swerved in to the rear quarter panel of my car. Out of the blue there was a witness that pulled to the side and claimed it was my fault even though I never left my lane.

In my view...dash cams are essential.
I was prompted to get one after a maniac continually brake tested me and then threw a full water bottle at me that hit me in the head while driving down the highway! He was caught, I won a $20000USD settlement against him (which he paid! and he got an additional 10 months in jail...go Taiwan justice system....they are pretty hardcore here! Anyhow, after that, a cam is so cheap and so potentially useful I would not go without it. Came in handy when I guy who was blocking a parking lot argued with me and later said I tried to run him over. Pressed play....no more story coming out of his mouth! Also a scooter that fell over behind me...who tried to pin it on me. (we didn't even hit so I have no idea how she thought it was my fault.) Here at least, there is a sizeable minority who see a BMW and think "Money, let's see if I can get into a position to sue him." The cam has already more than paid me back twice. |

Anyone knows a good source of DR400G-HD at a reasonable price? Saw many on ebay, but I tend not to trust them as I heard many are fakes.
Folks, how about a group buy? |
