I've heard you can check for a wire harness under the panel where your map lights are. Check out Bavarian auto's web page and find the alarm. On the bottom right of the details page it has installation instructions so you'll know where to look.

Is there a way to check for sure whether I'm prewired? I have a '09 E93, production date 2/09. I checked under the cover by the driver's side hood strut and don't see any connectors there. There is however, a plug outside and right next to the cover..

Pop out the REAR dome light housing.
There should be a connection for the main sensor there if prewired all nicely waiting for the brain.

Oh this is for your E93?
You'd need to take off your driver's side rear wheel and wheel liner.
Under there, there should be a little wire capped off popping into a recessed hole for the siren/tilt sensor.
