Thinking of an R8 GT convertible, I naturally think of the Italian cousin, the LP560-4 convertible. Then again at that price, I would opt for a 458.

Ferrari of course if you can find one in your budget. Otherwise Porsche

Although if I were spending that much I'd buy a GT-R ship it to AMS mod the hell out of it and have one ridiculously fantastic toy

So many options here, wish I was working with your budget but even then it becomes tough. Here is my list in no particular order:

Nissan GT-R (Save money and get an amazing car that REALLY performs. I love the styling too personally but I was a JDM guy in a former life. Downside is the lack of "prestige" if you are going for that.)

Porsche 911 (speaks for itself performance wise, style is OK to me plus you get the douche sticker attached for owning a Porsche by most people. I think the 911 should get a pass there but won't by many who are not enthusiasts.)

Aston Martin DB9 / DBS (The perfect mix of luxury, power, class and styling. The downside is that I am seeing a lot more of them lately and it makes me wonder if their product is suffering due to being more highly produced. Also not gonna be as quick as some other options.)

Mclaren MP4 (This car will turn some heads and really perform but i'm just not too familiar with it outside of Top Gear.)

Audi R8 (Cool car and performs pretty damn well but I really am not a fan of the styling. Like a Lambo that got aborted halfway through, I will await the flaming on this comment.)

Lamborghini Gallardo (It's a Lamborghini. Huge engine, scary fast car, styling is cool but over the top and def makes a statement. Whether that statement is "I'm a bad ass" or "I am soaked in cologne and a walking sexual harassment lawsuit" is still up in the air.

No matter what you get i'm sure it will be pretty sweet.

You've already got an E90 M3 (sensible car, four doors, still faster than 90% of everything else on the road) and a CLS63 (still sensible, also has four doors, but is faster than 98% of everything else on the road).

I think this is a nice sampling of higher end cars -- new Mercedes SL ///AMG, Ferrari 458 (Spider)/California, Lamborghini Gallardo/Spyder, Aston Martin Vantage/DB9.

IMO, you wanna go SUPER car -- Get a Lambo, it makes everyone smile when it goes by and only the Lambo/Ferrari V12s have a better exhaust note under WOT. If you could find a Murci, I'd scoop that up in a heartbeat.

***IF a Pagani is in your spending range, that should be the ONLY thing you're looking for.

Since you already have the new CLS63 AMG and an M3, I'd look into an LP560-4 Gallardo or a Ferrari 458/F430 Scuderia. You already have an amazing AMG; the R8 is amazing (especially with a gated 6sp manual transmission) but not my first choice; and the Porsche Turbo, while very fast, is too DD friendly which takes away from some of the supercar-ness you are looking for. Good luck though, I wish I was in your position!

My 2 cents:
You can't go wrong with any Porsche.
SLS, forget it! HORRIBLE suspension. It feels as if there is none! Yes, I've driven it.
R8 is a great choice with the V10. I prefer the sister car, Gallardo though. They are fantastic cars.
If you can swing it, definitely look at a 599GTB. That car feels like liquid silk! It is fantastic!

I was faced with the same question a few years ago. Looked at the following

Porsche 911 turbo
Audi r8
Ferrari f430
Lamborghini gallardo

I ended up with a Lamborghini superleggera , honestly I could not be happier.

Good luck with your purchase.

SLS all day. The other cars may be faster, more performance/track ready, etc.. but the SLS is the best looking car IMO.

I assume this car will not be a DD. If so, the SLS is the way to go. I used to own a roadster (albeit a much much much cheaper version than the SLS) and I still miss it. I was the most relaxing and enjoyable driving experience ever. Taking the top down in the summer and driving near dusk is an unforgettable experience.
