The windshield washer tank as a methanol tank is probably one of the worst and most dangerous "products" ever designed for the N54. The methanol slushes and creates vapors which are easily ignited given the temperatures in the engine bay. It's just incredible that there are still people running this setup after so many reports of fires !

I'm waiting for the first report of somebody dying because of this. Imagine a car catching fire on a highway at high speed while racing another car, and all the smoke and fire blinding the driver which freakes out, causes a huge accident and dies.

Stop using cheap plastic push tubes and stop mounting your meth kit on the hot side of the engine.... At least use an fittings, braided lines and mount it in the trunk. Fire was on the driver's side...and probably calling him an idiot the day after his car catches fire for a different reason than you're stating is...maybe a bit over the top?

I agree though that using the WW reservoir combined with cheap equipment and high mixtures is a recipe for disaster, though. With such a low boiling point, having an already volatile liquid evaporating at an extremely fast rate is asking for a fire. I mean ask yourself this...would you be putting fuel in a tank like that and using cheap rubber tubing to pipe it in? Probably not.

Are the good trunk mounted applications? I run Vishnu PWM WW tank meth kit. I am currently finishing an ASR twin turbo upgrade (see my post). I am concerned like the rest of you about a fire. I run a 70/30 mix.

Sounds like this could have happened regardless of where the meth reservoir was. If a line popped out of the pump fitting, the WW meth tank would have not been the contributor; rather just the meth system in general.

On my trunk mount, I used the crappy plastic lines, but I had the foresight to place my meth line and all the wiring inside a very thick, heat dissipating flexible tube. You can hold a flame to it for some time and it will still not feel hot to the touch. Maybe an idea for some of the other people out there.

I used rubber fuel hose as my shielding over the 6mm meth line... I think 1/2 OD. Very nice fit. Not the best option, but very easy and much better then exposed meth line.

Sorry to hear about your situation, you are definitely not the first and won't be the last.

If you race in NASA events, they do not allow greater than 50/50 mix for this reason. I've been asked mixture % several times when getting my car teched.

Like Shiv said, It's more than likey your cap came over and spilled onto your manifold. This is the reason I always used electrical tape to secure the cap.

That howerton tank is awesome, I ordered the ADVAN one. I personally don't like big tanks sitting in the trunk - the advan one sits in the hole in the center of the trunk under the mat

Get out of here... Not everyone, but most people have gunned it on the freeway late at night etc. I personally have done very little street racing if you call it that, but a 60-130 on an open freeway. I've put up several videos of myself doing this and I admit to it 100%. I've gone to f*cking fast. So what? I agree, but I think meth is good to have, in small controlled quantities, it has its purposes. But when you start running it constantly... I think of it as my go fast button

I was doing meth on my 335i before MANY of these people I see on here now even owned their cars now they are in here talking like they are king kong.

The tubing was bought from this place (I live near it). Not 100% that this is the same exact tubing.

Here is a link to a website which gives more detail on this type of tubing as well as some other options. Most of these are flame resistant. They are durable and thick too. Some of these lines can resist temperatures up to 500 F indefinitely or up to 1400 F for short periods. If you want heavy duty they have some that go up to 932 F continually or 1732 F for short periods.
