As others have pointed out, it's not the possible ban, or the being frog marched to the cash machine for the huge fine.
It's the fact that they can (and will) seize your car. I am aware of people on this forum who have been caught doing a silly speed (the same sorts of speed being talked about here) and the police have chosen not to issue an on the spot fine but take said driver to court. Whilst the driver might be bailed for the 3 months running up to the court hearing and allowed home, their vehicle has been held until after the court date. Would you want to risk having your car impounded in France for 3 months? |

You'll still make good progress. On UK motorways you're constantly having to adjust your speed for middle and outside lane numpties, HGVs and general congestion. This just doesn't really seem to happen over there.

France - done.
No camera flashes, no police incidents and a thoroughly good journey. Wafting along at 85 on cruise for most of the saw a thoroughly respectable 25mpg from the CL, meaning only one re-fuel today - very impressed.

Just found the post, glad to see someone had actual knowlege of the trip to warn you of the stormtrooper trained French Police, never go above 140Kph unless you are Jeremy Clarkson the run down through Spain on your suggested route is great, a little boring but a few amazing views with good road surface.
I lived and worked in Puerto Banus for a couple of years but it went down hill fast in 2007 but my biggest customer is still there, M V Lady Haya, you cant miss her, she is moored right outside the Port Captains office at the base of the tower. The route over the mountains from France to Spain MUST be done during daylight "amazing" Have a safe trip. Kev

Arrived safe and sound at about 6pm local time. Great run, no grief. Mega, mega weather here (sorry). 2 days of chilling, then flight home.
