Andy, thanks. The Disco 3 is on a Motability contract for my disabled 16 yo. The next car might have to be wheelchair accessible so I suspect the Disco 3 will not be on the cards, much to the huge annoyance of my wife. She loves the Disco

It might have to be a converted Chrysler Grand Voyager but they are so ****** expensive after conversion even on the Motability Contract scheme - like £25K deposit on a 5 year Lease paying about £190 month!

That one there is a Mark V - the last of the line.

The crusader was a limited edition trim with solid wood inserts for the dashboard and doors, plus velour seats and a front centre console.

I got the centre console and all the wood bits from scrapyards and installed them onto my Y reg 1.6 L.

I also ripped out the original mono radio (slider type controls and no tape player) and replaced it with a 180w 4 speaker system.

I also had rectangular driving lights that came on with the main beam and sat below the front bumper.

All installed by me.

I loved that car ...

Right here goes - dates are approximate:

1982 (Y) Fiat 127 - Great first car, but the clutch cable went every 6k miles. I used to carry a spare in the boot and could change it in 15 minutes flat.

1987 (D) Fiat Regata 1.6 - bought from my parents for a pittance. Dull but worthy

1983 (A) Alfasud 1.3 - Absolute classic. Had 6k miles from new (previous owner had died and it had been in a garage for 12 years). Sold after 9 months for significantly more than I bought it for - I just couldn't face the thought of wrecking such a mint car putting loads of miles on it.

1991 (J) Lancia Dedra 2.0i.e. - Really fast and well specced. Loved it and drove it into the ground.

1994 (M) Fiat Punto 1.1 6-spd - Needed to save money after the costly-to-run Lancia

1997 (P) Fiat Bravo 1.8HLX - Decent car and my first nearly-new motor. Got bored of it quickly though

1993 (L) Peugeot 306 Cabriolet - Impulse purchase and still one of the better looking soft-tops

1999 (V) VW Golf GTI MkIV - My first brand new car.

2002 (02) BMW 318Ci E46 Coupe - First Beemer bought brand new and probably my favourite car. Wife hated it though.

2004 (53) Volvo S40 2.4SE - Wife and parents loved it. I didn't. Competent and comfortable but thirsty with a hideously indecisive autobox. Also the most unreliable car I have ever owned.

2005 (55) BMW 320d SE E91 - Current car. Great to drive and own, but wife still hates it. Next time I'm getting a 6-pot!

That's it for now!

Carl,
'"Old Girl" is that some disrespectful, quaint Essex turn of phrase to describe your Mother? I bet she would be none too pleased to hear you say that
Also, I see the Tourettes 'issues' remain

Now you are being disrespectful to all of us.....how do you know we are 'about' your Dad's age? We could all be young whippersnappers like you for all you know! (just that we work harder and earn more and have our own Beemers )

Let's see...

In South Africa I had...
1. Toyota Corolla 1.6 GLX (bought it off my stepmom after my bike - Yamaha RZ500R - was stolen. I was 19yrs old.)
2. Mazda Drifter 1.6 Pick-up (this was a cool car/pick-up with custom audio - 2x15inch subs etc, bull bars, roll bar, custom exhaust. Great for the beach in Durban, South Africa)
3. Isuzu KB200 1 ton pick-up (custom audio and a few other things but primarily my company tool in the construction industry)

Returned to the UK 8 yrs ago and...
4. Renault Megane 1.6 Coupe (nice little car but flaking paint saw me get rid of it)
5. Volvo S40 1.8 Sport (comfortable-ish but ultimately very boring...)
6. BMW 320d M Sport (significant improvement, loved the car and the performance)
7. BMW Z4 2.2i (awesome car, most fun I've had driving.)
8. BMW 330cd M Sport convertible (great engine, fabulous car)
9. BMW 335i Coupe (current car, best I've owned as an overall package)

I also have fond memories of being able to use my Dad's E36 325i when I was in my twenties, he didn't like it much and preferred his Merc so I used it almost daily. My first foray into BMW appreciation.

using the word f**k as both an adjective and a noun are classic Tourettes traits

Carl does your mum mind you posting her pic on here?
I'm just trying to figure out whether she's running away from you or towards you, I'm guessing the former by the expression on her face.
It's one of those "I know he's my son and I've seen it all before but I do wish he wouldn't sit in the lounge naked reading top gear playing with his Quentin (Wilson)."

My first car: in my name:
Mazda 3 1.6 TS2, still have this car, though now my mothers.

Second car:
Mazda 6 MPS - sold after 6months and 10k miles due to running costs (FUEL and service at 9k).

Currently, the 330d, I do miss the traction and ride of the MPS... the MPG of the bimmer keeps me happy.
