Yeah, how would DPE know who the coupon belongs to? It doesn't say anything about "not transferable" or something to that effect, nor does it have any expiration date on the certificate. The purchaser can just say he/she won it at a raffle at SoCal MOM.

They would know because a list of the winners names are given to them when the prizes are raffled off. They have serial numbers for the gift certs and they are meant for those who win them. If whomever buys this trys to purchase a set of wheels from DPE or any dealer for that matter they might not get the wheels and have wasted alot of money. Just an FYI

Well, it looks like DPE is perhaps out of 3 potential buyers (lots of $$$ there). There were 3 winners and it seems that all of them have bought wheels already. And frankly, the certificates look kinda "unofficial." There was no where on the coupon to put your name or contact info, not very specific to what you can or cannot buy with the cert, doesn't say where to get the wheels from (via DPE or 3rd party sellers?), and there was NO serial number or any other number on the cert itself.

jnT can just order the wheels for the person who buys this certificate.... the winning bidder, just send the payment to jnT.... and jnT gets them shipped to his house...

well i know i'm using mine.
Plus I believe Long knows who the winners were. Not positive though. Also, most of the people at the meet were from CA, so if you buy and try to use it from let's say NY, i think they'd know. That's only for out of state peeps though. |

the whole point of the vendor sponsoring the raffle was to give people who wanted their products a chance to get them at a reduced price.
i am guessing a lot of people who went into the raffle thinking i can win a coupon and sell it to make a quick buck. but i think DPE is doing the right thing in terms of policy. but if jnT wants to get rid of it, looks like the only way is to buy it for someone else and then give it to them like montreal bimmer said |

you are absolutely right. there is no stopping people who entered the rraffle to win prizes and in turn make a quick buck. DPE did a nice thing in putting out their coupons there. but there is no way for them to stop resellers except through this method. their intent was to get their products in the hands of people who actually wanted them. if people entered the raffle in order to make a quick buck, then sad to say, they will be disappointed, because DPE set their policy to prevent such occurrences. my question is why enter the raffle if you didn't want the products? if you weren't planning on buying on anything from vorsteiner or DPE why enter the raffle? simply to make so money off a coupon that really won't have a set value? i am glad that there are people who were incredibly happy that they entered the raffle and won something they wanted for their car instead of thinking of the raffle as a way to make money. tyler, i understand that you won a spoiler and you don't have a e92. but in my mind that is a seperate issue. the coupon is not specific to a BMW model unlike the spoiler which fits only on a e92. for your situation i understand, but for the DPE coupon, policy set by DPE is the policy that the people have to follow. honestly, its not a big deal that jnT has t o buy the wheels. like i said before, montreal bimmer presented the solution that came to my mind. just have james purchase the wheels, but someone can pay james first. its not that difficult edit: i don't want to get into this too much, but if DPE sponsored the coupon, they can set the rules and policy on how it is to be used ... |

well this isn't quite over yet. If anyone wants some DPE wheels, he could transfer money to the OP to buy the wheels and have it shipped to him.

I dont think anyone could have said it better. Atleast this situation was addressed before someone spent alot of money on a certificate they couldnt use and problems were caused. DPE went from giving one of these to 4 of these because people were saying they wanted a chance to win them. Whens the last time any company did that? I dont think they should be bashed for this, but I can understand how much of a bummer it is Manu |

But 750.00 sounds stupid high for the certificate to me. I wouldn't pay more than 200-300 bucks for it The 50%/35% is off retail so if you can buy DPE for 30% off retail from a forum sponsored vender all you are saving is 20% difference. So unless the wheels retail for more than 5K it isn't worth it to buy in the convoluted fashion of ordering through the certificate owner. Plus now in a sense you are buying them "used" or new but second party so the warranty that applies to origional purchaser only no longer applies to the guy who is actually buying them. Thats just MHO but I say find someone who is local to you and looking for a set and price out what they cost from DPE then price them from the best deal vendor then split the difference which will most likely be about 600.00 so 300 for you and 300 savings for the buyer. DPE sells their wheels at MSRP...Their vendors sell at a significant discount off of MSRP. If you order from an Out of State vendor you don't have to pay taxes. If you are in So Cal, you can pick the wheels up at DPE if you ordered them from your out of state vendor. The delta on the Signature wheels if purchased from an out of state vendor vs from DPE at MSRP - 35% would probably be +/- $200 bucks...
DPE/organizers should have stated the rules before the raffle. People wanting to make a quick buck on the raffle...cheers. |

Uh... Legally, I don't think can say they are non-transferable unless it is written on the coupon or the winning bidder signed a form indicating he would not sell it.
Oh and unless DPE has an official statement that their "other restrictions may apply" includes not being able to transfer it, I don't believe it's valid. You simply can't have anterograde laws that regulate previous transactions. Unless again, that's stated in some sort of policy . Whoever wrote the other restrictions may apply probably did it because they thought it was customary for the fine print. For future reference, DPE should include whatever laws they want. And personally, I think anyone should be able to sell prize that they win. Unless in rare, stupid cases, like Pimp my ride cars not be for sale, I think the owner should be entitled to do what he wants with his OWN prize. |

Questions:
1. Did you guys know that the gift certificate was not transferable before you enter the raffle? 2. I heard some guy won the gift certificate at Bimmerfest was selling it too, was it true? |
