Buff your car once or twice a year and you should be fine.
Hand wash your car and get some quality microfiber towels to avoid swirls.

A few options for the OP.

You can try to locate a local detailing supplier that sells to dealerships and other local detail shops and ask for an all-in-one that fills scratches. It will be a band-aide. You will need to continue to "buff" the paint(by hand or machine) regularly because the damage will remain and the filler will wash out over time.

You can contact a paint correction professional who will correct the damage. Moving forward, you will need to maintain the paint properly for a longterm payoff. If you take the car to a swirl-o-matic(automatic car wash) or a cheap "detailer", they will ruin the paint and you will have wasted the money. True paint correction will not be cheap. Leveling clear coat is not something that can be done in a couple hours. It takes many hours and products that are not inherently cheap. But if you top it off with something like opti-coat 2.0, it will be easy to maintain and look amazing for a very long time. No need to spend $xxx once a year on a "wash and buff" from Joe-Blow Detailing service.

You're going to be spending the same amount of money over time. The big difference is one will look better and take less effort down the road.

How long does the turtle wax shine last for?

I saw it, but I was worried it was only good for a day or two and would wash off with the rain.

I've seen that product in the store and heard good things from others about it. Is that that same product that you get in the Turtle wax "Black Box"?

Yes in fact I think in the "Black Box" you get more than one, as well as some traditional wax products and other things. I recommended this product to a coworker with a huge black Tundra and he came back with the black box instead.

Actually in my novice opinion it's rain performance is fantastic. It's raining lightly now and I'l bet you tomorrow morning the car will still look nice. I mean a real downpour would remove any wax but as far as it getting wet there is a really nice bead to the water droplets. It rained all night and this morning I was watching the water roll off the front after applying the product on Friday. Additionally, it's so easy and quick to apply that even if you found a few water spots after rainy time, you could easily just grab the bottle and towel out of your trunk and do a lil spot touching up without even being late for lunch.

On Sunday I used it to remove a small amount of bird shit from my hood, the pressure from the spray alone blasted the shit away with no advance touching, so then one cloth to remove the bits and another to blend the wax and 3 minutes later it was like it never happened.

Now it's raining heavy tonight so I'l try to capture the results when it stops tomorrow.

I have a 2006 325i JB. I am looking at doing Meguiars #105 for correction and Meguiars #205 for polish top coating with Collinite 845. Someone recommended that combo over at Autogeek.

Looks like the water beads off pretty well, Im going to buy that black box today and give it a try. Post a picture after it dries.

Be careful with this product (BlackBox). Speaking from personal experience, I used this on my Lexus LS400 years ago. Since the car was parked outdoor exclusively ( I had a "Garage Queen" that took up all the room in the garage), I was looking for a product to keep it looking decent without all the work like OP. Based on what I saw in the internet and the result from my first application on the car, I bought a case from a vendor online.

The product did a great job at hiding defects but then it is a filler with black pigment after-all. Start to finished ( Wax Cleaner, Wax, QD spray) took about an 2 hours by hand to do on a large car such as the LS400. I used the QD to do spot touch-ups and after every wash. I also used the QD for those times where the car wasn't too dirty but could use a bit of freshening up. I also re-applied the products on a monthly basis and this went on for years.

This is the problem..... Black Box does such a great job at hiding everything that it gives you the false sense of your paint is actually in good shape. It also would persuade you from doing all the proper washing and caring techniques since you could always re-apply the products and have a decent outcome.

I realized this when I was selling the car years later. I thought I would give the old girl a good polish before I sent her off to another owner. I striped the wax and did an IPA wipe. The horrors!!!!! The car was swirled to hell. The car didn't even look black. The DAYS I spent in correcting it made me realized that I should have done it right from the start.

IMO.... if you have a car that you are not planning to keep then go for it but I would highly recommend "Doing it right" for those who are keeping theirs.

It never stopped raining! When the sky finally cleared around lunchtime today I could see that the product held up and didn't wash off very much however driving it to work got some road filth on it that I just couldn't bear. So we went through the local touch free wash + another light application of the spray only. Ahhhhh nirvana once again. Next time I have the opportunity to show it after a rain without having to drive through filth I'l snap some pictures.

Ok, thx. I hate road filth. Theres nothing I like more then looking down a black hood that is spotless and reflecting the road as it goes by.

After all that rain I decided to give it a proper cleaning with my yummy lambs wool mitten and finish off the next day with a rinse and the black tinted wax. I also cleaned the wheel wells with the black stuff. Sorry it's so dark out but I polished until the sun was gone.

From my experience- using a good hand cleaner wax like Maguires (typo?) works pretty good for light swirls. I've also used the turtle wax that is meant for black cars only and it does a good job filling in surface scratches.

I just bought a used JB 135i last week and did a wash today after the rain. I couldn't believe that when I used my fingers to rub across the paint, it would create tiny swirls. I tested it a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. My fingers look ok and smooth to me, LOL.

I then took the plush microfiber towel that I used to dry the car with and rubbed it across the paint. No swirl marks.

Wow....from a finger.

In the Spring, when I strip and do a full detail, I'm curious to see what the real condition of the paint is. I wonder if my fingers were rubbing off the fillers. If so, I better prepare myself for a few days of work

do a IPA solution wipe-down on a small section and you will see the true condition of the paint.
