Yes I am an officer.
Why shouldn't a police vehicle be travelling at 110?

Speak to your advanced drivers about travelling without blue lights. The speed exemption is just that. Without blues or with. However, if you cause, or are involved in any accident or incident whilst doing so, your actions will be held fully accountable and must be fully justified.

If you are travelling at 110, what would be the reason for this? Advanced or not, you should not be travelling at this speed on routine patrol.

A police car doesn't need to activate blue lights to exceed the speed limit. It is not breaking the law if it speeds without lights ...

A police car can exceed the police limit for a police purpose ... granted that doesn't include going for a doughnut ... but it not just restricted to 'calls'.

The police driver judges when and where to use blue lights .... but - as has been stated - muck up and be punished !

Really surprised to see the disagreement between our e90post police officers... does each police force have a separate rule regarding going above the speed limit and use of blue/ emergency lights???

This is correct.

Not sure where the notion of "putting on your lights if you want to speed", or only being able to speed when responding to jobs came from? :/

No mate. The use of the emergency warning equipment is down to the driver alone, no one else. I couldn't be ordered go drive anywhere on blues.

Easy scenario to picture... Suspects on job (where people are breaking in right now). Would you want 5 cars turning up, blue lights and sirens, letting all and sundry know your coming at least 3/4/5 minutes before you get there? Any numpty would have it on his toes and be gone prior to police arrival.

As said above, warning equipment is as and when necessary, in all forces

Speeding exemption is NOT restricted to driving on blues

Are you sure about this? I'm sure there was recent legislation passed regarding the speed limit exemption, and the consumption of warm fresh doughnuts...

Whilst I agree with you, from a safety point of view I would much rather see the police make themselves as conspicuous as possible if they want to charge around at speed.

I think the case here is simple...

Breaking the law and breaking the learned policy of a particular force are two different things, that's all.

Where do you get your Krispy Kreme's Mart?
A few years back, I was seriously going to apply. But didn't, as they don't support work permit applications and I was still under a student visa.

A friend of mine applied....bloody long recruitment process!!!

If I was a police officer, I would be driving around all day on the motorway at 130mph with my lights on.....flashing those morons in the right hand lane and screaming in the loud speaker "this is the police, move to the left lane you moron!!!"

Unless he was going somewhere official, police drivers do NOT drive at 110, and absolutely do not tailgate other cars.

If he had been a plod, I seriously doubt you'd have had a trhumbs up either. More likely to have been a wagging finger or a shake of the head. They don't generally encourage idiotic driving like that.
I was also thinking it could be someone like businessedition.

Someone who wanted to get into the traffic police but couldn't. So instead they put blue strobes on their car and go racing.

I was watching traffic cops and saw some guy in a 52 plate plum red dadsmobile people carrier outrun atleast 3 police cars and a chopper.

The 335d would surely leave them gawking.
