This is good information. I have some questions to help me understand if I have the gearbox update.
My 2011 335d was at the dealer on 11/6/12 and was updated. I posted pictures of my update paperwork Here. Posted the the above paperwork, my car was updated to: Integration Level: E89X-12-07-507 System Version: 2.33.11 Data Version: 2.33.0 There didn't appear to be an update to the EKP module. My question is how does the system and data version have to do with the integration level? I noticed that your July update had a newer integration level than my dealers. How can I check to see if I have the latest transmission software? I hate the 2nd gear "slipping". Thanks, Ed Quote:

The CAS serves as an antitheft alarm system and enables the start of BMW vehicles. A transponder chip is integrated in each of the vehicle keys. A ring coil is fitted about the ignition lock. The transponder chip is powered by this coil from the CAS control module. This means that no battery is necessary in the key. The power supply and data transfer take place in the same way as a transformer between the loop antenna (coil) at the ignition lock and the transponder chip. The key then sends data to the CAS control module. If these data are correct, the CAS control module enables the starter by means of a relay located in the control module and additionally sends a coded start enable signal via a data link to the DME/DDE. EGS is the gearbox module, but I would update all available modules or at least DME/EGS and CAS. It will take you about 30min. Quote:
Im sorry for confusion, but it looks that update for the gearbox was released when 2.48 data files were available. Yesterday I was checking gearbox software # for someone who has 2.47 data and there was no new software available for the gearbox. Quote:
I just did my update at the beginning of July when 2.46 DATA were only available. At the end of July or early August 2012, BMW released DATA 2.47 and in December 2.48. I-Step E89X-12-07-507 is ISTA/P 2.47.5 though 2.48.0 I-Step E89X-12-07-508 is ISTA/P 2.48.1 though 2.48.2 (current) Quote:
Other option, go to the dealer and ask for diagnosis. They will give you print out from ISID with all modules in your car with current software number. Last edited by marius76; 03-06-2013 at 03:38 AM.. |

Marius76.. thanks for your info.
So, if I understand you correctly, I do not have the gearbox update because I have 2.47 and the update was only 2.48. Correct? Can you describe how the update makes things better. -Ed Quote:

Ed,
It looks that update was available since 2.48 but I post this message here on diesel forum to find out if someone else had this done and can confirm difference. as to changes - basically gearbox changes gears in more smooth way. When my car was cold, I could notice that gears were changed later with some kind of delay. It looks that now it is gone too. Really, if you do update, you will notice the difference. |

I tried getting my dealer to look this up and they couldn't find it at all. By chance do you have the "BMW" look up code that I can give them so they can see exactly what I'm talking about?

Whoever had the gear box update performed at BMW, can you please share a part of your invoice? My dealer also does not know anything about this update. Thanks.

I recently had everything updated and they gave me a very detailed printout of update codes and the trans update code was not amongst the list. My service supervisor (and the list) said there was no update for the trans. Not surprisingly it shifts like it always has. Fuel mileage is the same too.

I just got a call from the dealer telling me to go in for a recall. The car needs "new programming". Not sure what the details are, the appointment is next week so I'll find out then.

Could this update be unique to Canada? It appears that everyone that has gotten it has been in Canada (I think, I haven't gone back all the way through the thread).

i got it done, the dealer did it with no questions asked
what a huge difference in how it runs through the gears. Although, i will admit it shifted harder before the update, but now it is crisp and fast shifting and almost no slip from the torque converter. Currently the car is always in the right gear and pulls hard like it gained torque. |

Sounds like this update will cure my only real complaint with the car.. "slipping" in 2nd gear...

What specifically did you ask the dealer for? I'd like to get this done, but they say my vehicle is already updated to latest version.

I told them to update my car with the latest software that they have available (and they said that 2.48.2 is the latest )
p.s. they didn't want to do it at first (but my car was there for about a week for some emission related issues , well known around 335 community, so they did it as a goodwill...after i talk to the service manager ) |
