memorize the mph of where you would shift. Its easier for your brain to glance down at a slower moving needle than a quick moving one. You should already know this stuff if you rev match

I know not what you were looking for but it will help temporarily

I've driven both my "old" E90 320si and my current E92 335i several times on different tracks, and I never ever have music on so I can listen to the revs instead.

Or - we could train a little mouse with a pen light to sit on the steering column. Not dissing anyone, just the thought made me laugh...
I have one of these installed in my Mini Cooper S for the Track , it works VERY WELL

I wired it directly from a power input wire, you cannot use the cig lighter on a MINI, since it is "down-regulated". The lights are very bright, blink 1 light, then 2, then ALL as you approach your adjustable "red-line" setting

I had a new ECU bump up my redline so I just changed the setting on the GT Tech-Pro to an upper warning setting, works wonders ...

I never have to look down when I am on the Track !!! Very safe idea

The power flowing through a vehicle's electrical system fluctuates with RPMs. The GTech unit can detect this. It's common consensus that it's poor at doing this on BMWs. The best bet is to choose a "manual RPM map" for it, but this doesn't always seem to be within 100 RPMs, especially during vehicle warm-up or "adaptive" air-conditioning behavior (where the A/C drops when it can tell that you're flooring it).

The GTech can be programmed to flash lights at certain RPMs. But, since these are a little imprecise, I wouldn't coun't on them for not taking my vehicle into the red. The product is great, but BMW's electrical system is too unique or dampered to make it 100% effective.

Mine's hard-wired, by the way (with a fuse-tap to the seat functions). Have heard the same from folks with cig-lighter power mounts on BMWs. A search here on "gtech" and "g-tech" will reveal more.

BTW, great unit, love having mine in the car. I use it for it's G-force monitoring and 0-60 timings (which it deduces from forward G's and inputted vehicle weight, I think). The background light colors exactly match up with the 335i. I have a post where I discuss and have pics of my install here:

I think the best bet is to intercept something behind the RPM gauge (dash), at the ECU (under hood), or at the OBDII connector (driver footwell). I'll be looking at these myself, in the coming months.
