Oh dear! Another poor soul having similar problems to me this evening...

I returned home from work to discover that the cleaning lady had knocked my laptop and somehow broken the AC pin so now it won't charge. I have had a quote of £155 to repair it - includes Courier. Not pleased.

Carlos, hope your laptop isn't permanently damaged.

What laptops are people running out there?

I'm running a (now fairly old) Rock Quaddra Ti. Battery life is about 30 seconds now , but to be fair it gets used as a luggable rather than for any use on the move. P4 3.4GHz desktop processor, 1GB RAM, 17" widescreen, twin 60GB 7200rpm drives striped. In it's day the dog's danglies.

sorry for your laptop bro. but ive done this twice. once on my personal laptop and my company laptop. my personal laptop, no choice but to get it fixed. decided to give it to my brother and get it fixed since i received my company laptop. happened again to my laptop now some keys arent working. just thought to let you know that it happens and it can be fixed. cant do much but take it to a repair guy. oh btw, waiting overnight and hoping it dries and works again wont work. sorry to burst your bubble.

Surely your laptop is covered under the house insurance.

Our insurance covers any item up to £1500 for accidental damage.

Ask your old man to look up the details - chances are he is well covered.

Tis really annoying though!!

Here's a few more L's just in case you have run out of the above

LLLLLLLLLLLLLL llllllllllllllllllllllll

I'm using an Asus G1. Well, I was until someone broke the AC pin! Now it is ready to be shipped for repair. I'm on the kids Dell XPS2 at the moment. I had Alienware before that and I had the same Rock as you before that! I guess I go through a lot of laptops...

Using an old Dell Inspiron 8100 PIII-1GHz - about 7 years old.

Bought parts on Ebay to max out the Ram (512Mb), and an internal 54g wireless card.

Runs IE7 and Outlook 2007 just fine.

Weighs 3.6Kg though so more of a lapbreaker than a laptop.

The MacBook is the only laptop I now use & the only one I like to be seen using!

I alternate between:

http://www.whatlaptop.co.uk/YY0r7y9o-WckGQ.html

(girly, once trendy, small, light, easy to carry, but slow)

and this:

http://www.t3.co.uk/reviews/general/..._sz1_vp_laptop

(more powerful, titanium case, looks cool, still easy to carry)

I can't handle anything bigger as I can't stand the lopsided effect carrying it round has on me. I'm lucky to be in charge of IT so I can pretty much buy what laptop I want when I want it.... I tend to prefer desktops though mostly.

I'm with Viv and Steph (is Steph a 'he' or 'she' - just I heard Carloo calling Steph 'she' but wondered if it was short for Stephen?

Anyway, mine is an Apple Macbook Pro (about 3 months old), with following spec:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz
2Gb RAM
120Gb hard disk
GeForce 8600M GT graphics
15" glossy LED display
22 inch external monitor attached (very tempted to buy Apple 30" cinema display)
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse
802.11n wireless networking (WPA-PSK2 security)

<whisper> Also have a Sony Vaio from work running Vista Ultimate. </whisper>
