Hey man, i only just started logging a couple months back and here is some information that I found very useful:

Since you are in California like me, we get ACN (Arizona, California, Nevada) 91 gas, which is diluted more than other states due to the high population here. So just imagine that our 91 octane gas here, is like 89 or even 87 elsewhere

I began to add in 4 gal of E85 and went map 5, now its boosting at 16 psi (DCI, JB4 G5), and timing is MUCH better. And the best part, is that E85 is only $3.71/gal where I live

When I emailed Terry about timing, he explained that its normal for timing to dip around 4200 RPM at the VANOS change over. And that a bad timing drop would be a 3 degree sharp drop >4500PRM.

Hope this helped

Thanks man. I will try E85 tomorrow as I just filled up the gas and will wait until 100 miles later to put in 5 gallons of E85.

Map 5 still does not work for me with 91 gas, I wonder what map should people with 91 gas and no E85 run in the long-term.

Even with the timing drops i still ran map 1 with ACN 91. Maybe throw in a thing of Techron each fill up, might help, or octane booster (very little difference but still better than none)

Just did another log today on Map 1 with 91 gas and dci, it does look much better than Map 5. I think this is the best I could get before throwing in E85.

Will put in 5 gallon of E85 tomorrow, and let it adapt for a few days and do a Map 5 log, getting excited!! Will keep you guy posted, thanks for all the help!

I can't believe what E85 could do to JB4 tune! Put in 5 gallons of E85, did a few 3rd WOTs and it felt so smoooth and much faster. The log finally looks great on Map 5, good timing and booting ~16.4psi. But AFR is at around 13-14, not sure if it's a little too lean. E85 rules!!

Grats! That was my exact reaction when I first tried E85. I have an AWD and I can get it to spin tire now, much more fun on turns haha

Yes on E85 depending on the mix the JB4 will lean it out close to 14:1 in the midrange and 12.5:1 up top.

Here is the thing with upgrades you can have upgrades, exhaust, intake, DP,and i believe even FMIC. All those things will not damage the car. When you start getting into tunes such as remapping etc you run into issues with the dealers but again they have to prove it in a court of law that those mods caused the car to fail

Read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act

If your car, which has had the HP increased by 20-25% over stock with an aftermarket tune, breaks down or suffers an engine failure, I can pretty much guarantee that BMW will attribute the breakdown to a defective modification of the engine, i.e., that the engine wasn't designed to operate within these parameters (the aftermarket part, although operating as designed, was nevertheless defective because it overstressed the engine) and will refuse to honor the warranty.

Anyway point is if you have mods and the tire sensor goes out it will be replaced or if you have some elctrical problem and in the steering column it will be replace. if you blow your turbos and you are running 19PSI start forking over about 3k to buy and install because it will never be honored under warr.

Assuming they can prove you had a tune... Just take out the JB4... I had my turbos replace about 2 months ago under BMW warrantee and I had a JB4, just took it out, no problem

Did a few more logs on different nights with the same tank of gas + e85, but somehow the logs changed and timing was pulled consistently at around 4500rpm.

Not sure how it happened, as nothing was changed, same map, same tank of gas, similar outside temperature. I did a few WOTs before logging but it didn't seem to help.
