I just did the same on my 328i. I ordered a set of Akebono ceramic pads, Zimmerman rotors from Mesa Performance in Costa Mesa, CA. Picked up the pad wear sensor for a 20 dollar bill at my Indy. Total cost of parts: $316.35.

It took the better part of the afternoon because I sprayed the entire front suspension and wheelhouses with Simple Green and scrubbed them until they were clean enough to eat off of. If you remove the rotor backing plates (10mm socket) you can get things cleaner. Next time I'm replacing the backing plates as they are only 16 bucks a pop and were corroding/oxidizing.

Two things you must use: a torque wrench and anti-seize compound where the pads slide against the pad carrier.

After 450 miles, the front wheels have almost zero dust accumulated and the rears (with OEM composition pads) are quite dirty. Time for a wash...

There's also no need to do anything special to bed them in-just drive easy for the first 100-150 miles then you can start to get frisky.

I want both.
No dust, and stopping power.

So far my choice is leaning towards.
Hawks PC pads.
Not HSP.
Don't plan on changing rotors yet.

Does anyone know what could cause the inside pad to wear more than the outside?

I would highly recommend going with PBR/Axxis Deluxe Advanced compound or their Metal Master XBG compound brake pads. They provide excellent bite with little to no brake dust. The XBG's provide slightly more bite and resist high temperature fading better than the Deluxe Advanced pads.

Pairing these pads with a quality set of rotors from a vendor like ATE, Brembo, Zimmerman, or even the standard BMW OEM and you should be fine. Don't forget about the pad sensor wires, clips, and your parking brake! It also may be a good time to flush your system and replace the brake fluid as well..

Check vendors like MJMAutohaus.com, RockAuto.com, TurnerMotorsports, Import Replacement Parts Company, and ECSTuning for your brake components.

I had all four replaced three weeks ago zimmerman rotors and akebono pads. Very happy with the performance and very low brake dust.

I'll take OEM sadly given the choices made by the responds on this thread. I hate the dusting just like everyone, but the initial bite of the OEM pads is very very attractive to me. I have tried the Hawk HPS on my dad's Honda Odyssey as well as my NSX. Nothing special. Initial Bite is noticably weaker in both cases. Stopping power is equal or better. The pad is more linear in terms of delivering brake power, but the feel just sucks. The Van went back to OEM, and my NSX went to project mu.

The BMW might react differently than the JDMs, but I am not counting on it. Go OEM or go with some higher performance series/brands.

The Hawk Performance Ceramic is not going to be as good in terms of stopping power and brake feel, yes it'll last longer and have less dust than the HPS, but that's about the only selling point. Costs a little bit more too. I didn't like the HPS, doubt I'll like the lesser performing Ceramics either. Get OEM and just wash your wheels lol.

I am replacing the ones on my e90 335i with Performance Friction PF08 soon. GL!

PS, you live in Vancouver and commute 88km daily? Wow.

Not trying to hijack, but does anyone know the Manuf # for the Akebono Fronts and Rears? My searches are coming up with what look like 2 different kinds for the fronts, but both say they are compatible with my 07 E93 w/ Sports package.

I had a friend over asking me help in changing his rear pads to Akebono.

After installing them, I told him, I want to drive your car when you are on your 3rd gas tank.
Just to be sure the brakes were broken into.... Even if it is just the rears.

Then I drove his e90 325i.

I bought Akebono pads all around.
Beck arnley rotors, not the zimmermans.

On my third tank now, and must say. The initial bite is ok.
I personally think that you have to just get used to how your car brakes now compared to OEM brakes, or any other for that matter.

So, 4 weeks, havn't washed the rims.
Didn't get into a situation where I felt I traveled too far in my braking.

Just get used to it.
Great pads.

Ohhhh, when installing the pads the inside pad that clips into the caliper, don't bend those clips tooo much.... They lose their rigidity.

Just went through this same process. I went with the porterfield rs4 pads. These are like stock with an excellent bite but with much less dust, no noise and very little fade at higher temperatures.

If you just need pads and sensors, it'll be a lot cheaper. But, most of the time with BMW's it's recommended to replace your pads and rotors at the same time. Your call. You can probably get away with one or two "pad-only" swaps. Depends if your rotors are still in good condition and not warped.

I suggest you replace pads, sensors, AND rotors if you can.

I bought the quoted set above and have had them for 6 months and still love them to this day. Awesome set.

The stopping power is just as good as OEM.

There literally is no brake dust. Even after weeks of not washing (hey we all get busy). It's ridiculous compared to the OEM dust-factories.

The brake feel is way different than on OEM pads/rotors. I actually prefer the OEM feel but these stop just as well. OEM pads last a bit longer than the Akebono pads, but I'm still happy with the Akebono 25,000 to 30,000 mile pad life.
